It is possible to love the country and hate the government. When the country was founded on that principle and designed to provide a refuge for all who agree that hatred of oppressive government is essential to being part of the nation that loves this country then it takes a special respect for the people to be part of the government. The tradition of demanding respect ex cathedra from the people is what we rebelled against. Washington the man who refused a crown is not the same as Washington the town whose residents dishonor his memory.

Reading a very interesting book. “The End Is Near and It’s Going to Be Awesome: How Going Broke Will Leave America Richer, Happier, and More Secure” only about 200 pages, and he makes some interesting points already and I’m only 50 or so pages in.
That “occupant” vs. “resident” thing is something pols, especially prog pols, do not grok. Here what the 0 said yesterday when responding to a *heckler:
*During a big important speech honoring LGBT day, no less…I said before I don’t give a fuck (heh) what others do in private, but “honoring” sin in MY house?
I’ll hoist a Bravo Zulu on your statement as well LoTM.
I did my time in the Canoe Club down in the steam locker on a Tin Can.
A DDG in fact. (DDG 23) Those steam lockers sure are noisy but never cold.
I had to get out and go to the merchant marine to get my ticket and ossifer ratings. Mustanged up to Master through the hawsepipe. 25 years without a single “incident” on my record. Cashiered myself when the DHS took over from the USCG. I refuse to work with or for those parasites.
Chris,
I should be able to up my donation here in the next day or so. Same format as before. Am not looking for “gifts” except for the artistic variety Like GruntGI said the other day. (Swimming hole scenes – hint-hint)
capn, that was one of those real destroyers for sure…my father-in-law was on the USS Higbee during the early days of Vietnam (65-66). He died of cancer from Agent Orange exposure in 2001. He had some outstanding liberty stories from his days in Hong Kong. I spent a long, long 30 months on the USS Enterprise during my time in…pure purgatory for a P-3 guy to be sure, but made a lot of friends. My father-in-law and I smoked many a stoogie and drank many a beer swapping “we were there” stories…..good times.

Sam could not do as bad a reset as Hillary unless she was trying to, and Sam is instructing a child in the complications caused by a complicated language.
These kids will grow up with the knowledge of which Washington deserves respect and which doesn’t.

At the same time, kids coming up though our public school system will be taught to loathe the “slave-holding general” while worshiping the modern city “from which all good things flow”.
When people who despise our past and worship themselves are put in charge, this is the inevitable result.

Chris,
Additional funds delivered, as promised.
Credit half to Grunt, again, as promised.
I hope not, I may not have much hair these days…but it’s all turning gray.
Oh, and I love the subtle change in Zed’s facial expression…a little raise of the eyebrow…well done…it kinda reminds me of those smart-ass expressions Burt Reynolds used to do back in the day.
Kip, I need me one o’ them two-bit brains…where’s that drive-in?
And if Chris can ungray hair in meatspace, I’m in for that too…married with two baby girls before I turned 20, started turning gray soon after that. 🙁

And…the whole cherry tree story is a lie. Told by a teacher during the celebration of the Centennial of the country…to show his students the importance of telling the truth. Must have been a Progressive.
My son, then a 24 y.o. horndoggie, slapped one of those on his truck ’til his mama made him take it off due to it being in her words “crude and disrespectful”. It was, but still accurate.

Just one edit, LoTM; “…the town whose (occupants) dishonor his memory.”
Occupants are temporary and subject to eviction for cause.
Don’t have space here for all of the causes but will they be evicted? Doubt it, they’re all on Section 8.

Grunt, Sarah might have missed her chance at the big chair, but this is as true as it was in ’08…designed by Robb at Sharp As A Marble blog, IIRC:
