Situational Awareness gets a bum rap from those who say you can’t go about your daily bidness while swiveling your neck around and eyeballing every bipod in the vicinity like an SS dude at a POTUS meet n greet, and that is true. But of course a peripheral picture of your surroundings and nearby strangers certainly is possible and advisable; that could and should apply to everyone, toter or not.

But I would contend that the act of CC in itself enhances awareness, on the notion that if you have decided to carry the means to protect from random badness you are much more likely to be running a background profile of the proximity of potential badness.

And that is to say that I believe that if any of those three victims was a concealed carrier, there’s no way in hell that racist wackjob gets that close for that long without notice or challenge or countermeasure.

Chew on that for a bit, you blood-dancing, gun-grabbing, freedom-blaming freaks.

That was in reference to this, btw…some may not want to view sit.

How anyone can blame this incident on ‘not enough common sense gun laws’ is beyond me.

This is proof positive that evil does indeed walk among us and it needs to be opposed.

        with extreme prejudice….

I’m guessing ‘evil’ is to strong a term for this guy.

The evil Swansonic is referring to is those who are calling for “common sense” gun laws, not the shooter.

He was just a tool of those who are evil.

Actually, I am referring to the shooter as evil – if you can justify killing people because of hurt feelings you sure ain’t good.

I’m sure that some of the people calling for more gun laws are evil but many of them are just ill-informed / mis-informed / wishful thinkers / just plain stoooooopid.

I saw a of photo that seemed to show her recognizing the shooter and one of her just as he was shooting. Looked at a number and cannot remember exactly where, but The Conservative Treehouse had some.

It is times like this that I am reminded of the saying “Just because you have no interest in politics doesn’t mean that politics doesn’t have an interest in you.”

What a lousy day. God bless the victims and their families.

    And the unanswered question is:

How did Vester Flanigan know that the station was taping a broadcast at a certain place early yesterday morning and what TV personnel were going to be there?

      Lon Mead

I think we’re going to find that he had probably been following reporters from that station for a while.

Some people have said that this was faked because how could they not see Vester approaching. I’ve done a couple of standups for my media classes. You’re focused on facing both the camera and the subject so your attention is there and not on your surroundings. Maybe if you have more experience then you automatically do that and can look around while doing your job but she was only 24. It is a good question though, how did he know that they were going to be there and that time.

The left loves to call for ‘Common Sense’ gun laws. But they refuse to accept that what is common sense for the issue is Second Amendment carry.
Common Sense? I don’t think that phrase means what they think it means.

It translates to “We want nobody being allowed to have guns except people who take orders from US”. Like military and police that they control by virtue of being in (permanent) power, plus of course armed bodyguards for their personal protection. (It’s very “cool” to have your own private posse of armed thugs, in their world.)

They also want Draconian methods used to confiscate guns, like no-knock searches (forget the Bil of Rights), and the death penalty for being guilty of possessing a gun (the only capital offense they want on the books- right now). Not to mention “education” that is propaganda against anyone not of the elite’ even wanting a gun. (The One’s head of CDC once advocated a “national education initiative” that would condition people to see guns as “dirty, deadly, and banned”.)

What you never see is any progressive acknowledging that crazy people need to be restrained from hurting others. Largely because their worldview regards crazy people not as dangerous, but as super-enlightened types who are “seeing through different eyes”, and that we should be “valuing their insights”.

Here’s how that works. A few years ago here in OH we had a 19-year-old guy who worked for a tree-trimming outfit. He was in and out of mental facilities from age 12 on; his least crazy belief was that there was worldwide squirrel conspiracy to steal all the walnuts.

His family pleaded with the “authorities” to put him away, because he was noted for violent outbursts. They got sternly lectured about “valuing his insights”.

In the end, he broke into a house he’d spent two weeks casing. He murdered two older women and an 11-year-old boy, and then abducted the only survivor, a 13-year-old girl, to be his “sex slave”. He raped her repeatedly for a week until he was caught. Because someone remembered seeing him skulking around the house in the days prior to the “incident”.

His only weapon? A three-inch-bladed pocketknife.

The victims did not own a gun of any sort. Neither did he. The lack of a gun did not save their lives.

In the Virginia case, it occurs to me that the perp could have killed the victims with a knife or his bare hands; he was a certainly big enough.

And in MidEast Gangnam Style, there is always the IED, especially the satchel bomb or bomb belt. Don’t get me started on how many ways you can improvise explosives; Steven Seagal movies like the “Under Siege” pair are more realistic than you might think. Enough so that they would scare the (bleep) out of me if I didn’t know how many different ways someone can find bomb-making information, and not just on the internet, either.

Progressives don’t want crazies controlled, mainly because so many crazies share their worldview regarding who needs to be “done away with” to Create A Perfect World. This flake was a case in point; he was after all reprimanded for wearing an O campaign button on the air. (A rare case of something like journalistic integrity on the part of his employers.)

Progressives have a delusion that homicidal crazies, and violent criminals in general, are “front-line soldiers in our war against a repressive society”, as per the “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter” theory. So don’t expect them to want crazies, or criminals, restrained in any way anytime soon.

They just want everyone else to be rendered defenseless. So their only choices will be obedience to the hip, post-modern enlightened progressives- or death. At the hands of their armed minions- or guys like “Bryce Williams”.

(BTW, the fact that he insisted on using a phony name on-air, like an actor rather than a newsman, should have told everyone that they were dealing with someone who had at least as much going wrong between their ears as Andy Kaufman.)

The “enlightened” ones want everyone else to be vulnerable to any terror they care to impose, including the random terror of crazies going juramentado whenever they feel like it. They also want no one to be able to fight back, against the crazies or their own plans for Utopia.

So who are the really crazy people in that mix?

(Sorry for the length, CM, but there is no “short form” explanation for this.)

If the honest people are disarmed and the violent criminals are not restrained, then the citizens are more dependent on government. It would all make sense … if the lefties had ever shown any signs of being able to think so far ahead. But NOT thinking works out for them.

Since this is obviously a “hate crime”, per the libs own definition, then all of Vestor’s fellow travellers are indeed guilty. The RainbowFlag, MLK street signs, any and all public displays of anything celebrated as “gay”, LBGTXYZQRS, black, etc. MUST be removed from the public eye just as the last vestiges of the Confederacy have been. After all, it’s only ‘fair’.

      “Erratic Reputation

Kaufman’s reputation for being completely unpredictable had been well-established by the time he won the role for which he became most well-known: as Latka Gravas, an auto mechanic of indeterminate nationality, on the hit sitcom Taxi, which ran from 1978 to 1983. As a condition of his employment, Kaufman convinced the producers of the show to cast his so-called protégé, the smarmy Las Vegas lounge singer Tony Clifton (another one of Kaufman’s alter egos) in two episodes. Clifton was soon fired for unprofessional behavior. Kaufman went to some lengths to maintain that he and Clifton were two separate people; his best friend and fellow comedian Bob Zmuda eventually took over the character, even appearing as Clifton after Kaufman’s death.”

So some are actually arguing that these reporters were so focused on the importance of their jobs that they were totally oblivious to their surroundings?

First, teevee reporters are called on to cover crime scenes, crashes, fires, etc. every day. And every one of those scenarios carries some degree of risk to those on the scene, not to mention that local teevee personalities, especially young women, tend to attract wackjobs and stalkers and part of their training often is and always should be, to be on the lookout for odd acting/looking individuals hanging around a location, even one as seemingly innocuous as a chamber of commerce fluff piece.

Second, how disingenuous to argue that the preoccupation or focus on the task at hand is somehow different or more important than the jobs that we all do every day, in public, in the office, in traffic, there is the potential for stupid all around all of us, and that whole line of excuse just doesn’t fly.

Third, my argument above that the decision and act of concealed carry automatically imbues a sense of the responsibility for one’s own protection, with a large part of that being aware of one’s surroundings, at least in a peripheral manner. If any of those three were armed, there is no guarantee that they could react in time to defend from such random crazy evil, but it is highly likely that they would have not been completely unaware of his presence and could have at least attempted to stop the threat, and just might have been able to take out the nutjob before he shot all three of them. And if this is not the case, then why exactly do any of us carry at all? I’ll call bullshit on the whole “too focused to notice” thing. I wish for God’s grace on the victims’ souls, and His wrath on the shooters’. But I’ll also call for some real Common Sense, to pay attention to your surroundings and the people there, and to seriously consider that in this instance as in most, the cops are not going to help you, the onus for that is on you and you alone…and if the libs have their way, that ability will be taken away.
