O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil, and given life to Thy world, do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the souls of Thy departed servant in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which he had committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin, for Thou only art without sin, Thy righteousness is to all eternity, and Thy word is truth.
For Thou are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servants who have fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever unto ages of ages. Amen.
Chris, there are no words for a time like this, only prayers for comfort and grace. I lost my dad on Election Day 2000, and it still hurts. The strip today broke my heart. May God hold you and yours close to Him.

What I read at my father’s funeral in December 2013:
A reading from the Book Of Wisdom, 3:1-6, 9.
The souls of the just are in the hand of God,
and no torment shall touch them.
They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead;
and their passing away was thought an affliction
and their going forth from us, utter destruction.
But they are in peace.
For if in the eyes of men, indeed they be punished,
yet is their hope full of immortality;
Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed,
because God tried them,
and found them worthy of Himself.
As gold in the furnace, He proved them,
and as sacrificial offerings He took them to Himself.
Those who trust in Him shall understand truth,
and the faithful shall abide with Him in love:
Because grace and mercy are with His holy ones,
and His care is with His elect.
Been there, three years ago March 13. He was 98 and it was time, but still too early for us who remain. Thanks for sharing him with us, and for sharing your grief, too. Take your time.

Our deepest condolences….. My wife just lost her mother a couple weeks ago, and while a lot of Mother-In-Law jokes apply, we both miss her (as do her two granddaughters) and son. It takes a while. My parents are, unfortunately long gone, but well remembered.
And, that’s my point: At some time in the future, you’ll forget all the bad stuff, if any, and remember only the the good stuff. Then, when you recall them, smile.
In the meantime, may his memory be a blessing.

O my God.
God must have had him in heaven for more than half an hour before the devil knew that he was gone.
No fences now. Your father is at God’s range. Anywhere and everywhere is open.
May God comfort you and share your joy about the wonderful person and the love and joy that you have shared with him and your family.
I had returned to the computer after several days. The slow load that I usually have showed the very top lines and then the picture and story slowly revealed itself. It brought tears to my eyes. I had to get up and walk away. I walked and then went and appropriately got the slab of ribs that was ready to be brought in from the BBQ smoker.
Condolences, and happiness for the joy you and your family have shared with him.

I am speechless. So sudden there and so sad. We send our prayers, love and support.
Oh cold, cold, rigid, dreadful Death, set up thine altar here, and dress it with such terrors as thou hast at thy command: for this is thy dominion. But of the loved, revered, and honoured head, thou canst not turn one hair to thy dread purposes, or make one feature odious. It is not that the hand is heavy and will fall down when released; it is not that the heart and pulse are still; but that the hand was open, generous, and true; the heart brave, warm, and tender; and the pulse a man’s. Strike, Shadow, strike. And see his good deeds springing from the wound, to sow the world with life immortal.

Chris, I lost my Da’ to lung cancer 20 yrs ago, and still feel the loss, but I remember the good times and the great things he taught me. Be it so with you and yours.
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, but very dear.
May your Da’ find Divine Embrace and Eternal Light

I set no store in titles or labels,
my existence in this life is not
measured by the names I call myself.
I will not lay claim to lineages,
old blood lines or political beliefs,
in order to give my words credence.
Should this life cease tomorrow,
I choose to be chronicled
among the heritage of human.
Chris- In the end, being loved in life is all that matters as a man or woman. Your Dad knew love. As do you.

UNDER the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie:
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you ‘grave for me:
Here he lies where he long’d to be;
Home is the sailor, home from the sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
Damn. Sorry man. It doesn’t “heal” but it does eventually scar over.

Almighty God, we remember this day before thee thy faithful servant James; and we pray that, having opened to him the gates of larger life, thou wilt receive him more and more into thy joyful service, that, with all who have faithfully served thee in the past, he may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of
the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
O merciful Father, who hast taught us in thy holy Word that thou dost not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men: Look with pity upon the sorrows of thy servant Chris for whom our prayers are offered. Remember him, O Lord, in mercy, nourish his soul with patience, comfort him with a sense of thy goodness, lift up thy countenance upon him, and give him peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Chris, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. It is obvious that you loved your father. It is also obvious that he raised a good and talented son. I truly pray that Christ’s peace bring you comfort.

Chris, my Dad passed a year ago. He was a cowboy, a long-haul truck driver, and a Korean War combat veteran. Perhaps mine and yours are now sharing stories in that place where fences mend themselves, saddle cinches never get old and cracked, horses don’t step on your toes, the creek is always running and the fish are always biting.

After becoming a grief counselor after my wife took her own life I have come to counsel other survivors that it may never get better but it can become bearable.
Having lost Dad in 1993 at the tender age of 65 (where I almost am now), I had written this in ’08 at the old mothballed blog on the fifteenth anniversary of his passing. I leave it here because the circumstances were similar in the caring and nursing of someone you love more than just about anything, all the while knowing it won’t be for long.
It is beyond difficult and painful, but I wouldn’t trade that year of caring for him and talking with him for anything; I think back on those talks often, and it gives me comfort…I truly believe it did and does give my Dad and his soul comfort too. And in the years to come, I absolutely believe you will reflect on these past months with pride and love and wonder, as the sharp pain of the immediate loss ebbs.
And thank you, for sharing with us, your tribute in art to you Dad. Not only in this, today’s sad tribute, but in the living tribute you erected to him with each and every Day by Day that featured him, whether in image or mere mention.
You gave us a sense of who he was. You show us a sense of who you are.
Humble and grateful thanks to you both. May your Dad now indeed, Rest in Peace.
Respectfully,
Jim

Damn. I feel like I lost a friend. Treasure your memories of a great dad. Those of us who didn’t have one are jealous. Chris, you’ve been a treasured friend to all your readers. Our hearts hurt with yours.
My deepest sympathies and condolences, Chris. I lost my Dad a little over three years ago, and it shook me for quite awhile. He was a man of great character and full of love for my Mom (who passed years earlier) and the family. Even though he lived a good long life, when he passed I felt as though my soul had jumped off the tracks.
Even though I was 49 when he passed, I felt as though I was a little kid again being forced to “grow up fast” and “be a man”. I was a man, had moved across country on my own, got married, bought a house, etc. But it was different now. I no longer had that rock to lean on when times were tough, or the listening ear to bend when I just wanted to talk and get some advice. I still have his memories and his passed-down wisdom, but in a way I was now “flying solo”.
I’m glad that he is now in Heaven with my Mom (whom he missed so dearly and deeply for so long). I hope you are able to take comfort in that as well for your Dad. Lack of suffering, in a better place where one day we all will meet again in joy and love.
God bless you and yours at this time of sorrow, grief and healing. Rest assured he’s in God’s loving hands.

I was a friend of you dad since 1964. He is a great loss to me and a lot of people who loved and admired him. We worked together on several jobs. We met on the deck design he did on the 24′ Excaliber boat. He has also done a truck and a car for the Cyclone engine and just recently brought by a beautiful golf cart drawing for the Cyclone. We were starting to work on another project. So sorry he will be missed.

That was like a kick in the gut. It felt like losing a friend.
My mother passed in May and some of my cousins are still walking me through the grieving process. As one of mother’s nurses said, nothing can prepare you for the emotional blow when it happens. Please know you have thousands of fans holding you and your family in prayer. Although time will eventually dull the hurt, you’ll always miss him. Treasure the memories.

Words cannot convey our feelings properly, being limited by only 26 letters and only so many legible combinations. Regardless, please know that you have our deepest condolences. That there are over 400 responses to this truly sad news, in only a few hours, is testament to how much your relationship with your father has touched so many who never really knew him.
He was, is, truly a great dad, and will be missed. By all of us, but by you and your family most of all.

… Come, my friends,
T’is not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Chris my deepest condolences.
We always think the “old man” is going to be there for us.
We lost my dad in November of 2014,13 months to the day the pulmonary embolism took my wife and I was the one to find him.
We had a closer bond once I joined the brotherhood of those left behind by the only woman they’d ever love and he pulled me back from the edge in those early days when all I wanted was for the pain to end and to be reunited with my wife.
Ironically yesterday would have been dad’s 79th.
I’ll include you and your family in my prayers tonight and say one for your dad as well.
Strength brother.

Well, crap. Lost my father to a drunk driver when I was 14 and he was 42. That was Fathers Day weekend in 1974. In spite of the relatively short time I knew him, I’d hate to think how I might have turned out if not for his influence. Can’t help but recognize your father’s influence on you, and can offer no higher tribute than to mention that. Incredibly moving artwork today, and creating it was hopefully as therapeutic for you as it is emotional for us. Please accept my prayers for you, your family, and the extended Day-By-Day family.

Texas is state of Mind
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
‘Neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me;
“Here he lies where he longed to be,
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.”

Chris, your father is in Heaven and enjoying his reward. Please take the time to heal. BTW, I’ve enjoyed your comics for years but because I don’t use paypall I cannot pay you for services rendered. Is there a PO Box where I could send a money order or even just cash?
As someone else said, I have seen a lot of online tributes but never more than 500 taking the time to offer consolation and prayers.
I think that is not only because of how beautifully and heart-renderingly this goodbye was done, but because DBD transcends Chris Muir and even his sweet Daddy, as the reality based characters and storylines speak directly to the hearts and souls of so many, as witnessed by how so many here were moved to recall their own sweet, painful memories of love and loss.
That is certainly what happened for me, and I can’t express how much I appreciate your sharing your loss, so that we might remember, and feel, and share our own again. God Bless the Muirs and all here.
And for another time, someone mentioned having worked with your Dad 50 years ago, and that he had a hand in the planning and design of new steam-driven vehicle technology? ‘Splains a lot about the creativity and thought processes of the author here too, I think. There’s an awesome story there that I hope you’ll be able to share when the time is right.
Has this world been so kind to you that you should leave with regret? There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.
-C.S. Lewis
There’s nothing to be said that truly helps in a time like this; just know that once the grief fades a bit, he’ll still be in your heart, and you’ll see him again someday.

Chris there are no words.
No words of comfort, no words of wisdom, do words to relieve the pain. I am sitting in a hospital 4 hours (because local doctors suck)away from our home with my wife who has stage 4 breast cancer – metz to the lungs, bones and liver. She just had a procedure which went great, and now they find something (additional) potentially scary in her liver.
I state that simply to state that as a way of saying even with what is going on here, it PALES in comparison to what you are experiencing.
Thus no words.
But know, you are in our thoughts and our prayers.

I said above there’s a story to be told about Mr. Muir the Sr. when deemed appropriate by the Jr., based on another commenter’s discussion of his apparent involvement in design and development of modern steam propulsion.
And it seems in addition to that he is a holder of design patents for Police Radar Detectors, and this Reanaissance Man was (or is, who knows what dimensions are recognized in the hereafter), a Wizard of the Fifth Dimension.
When the time is right, Chris, second only to your beautiful tribute here, would be a short biography of this amazing gent.

My father was never close to me nor me to him but reading your strip told me most definitely that you two were very close and gave me little bits of insight as to what it might have been like.
I thank you ever so much and shall raise a shot to your father for the next few days.
Thank-you for such a touching tribute to your dad worked into your strip so perfectly. As we’ve talked and emailed over the years , our dad’s were such an incredible and important part of our lives. My dad died this April at 88 after years of fighting the effects of several stokes, heart attacks, dementia, Parkinson’s, and being wheelchair bound since May 2011 when he was moved to a care facility for the remaining 5 years of his life. It was a struggle for us, as it certainly was for you my friend.
It’s a tribute to you for how many real people love and care for you that they would take the time to offer real condolences and share personal stories with you Chris.
You touch a lot of people’s lives and your tribute to your dad, ” The Best Dad Ever” reached deep inside and touched us with raw emotion – I teared-up as I read it, both in sadness for you as well as knowing personally how touching this is for each of us who have lot a parent.

My deepest condolences, Chris. I don’t know what the modern equivalent is of ” He was a good man with a horse and rifle” but what ever it is, I am sure your Dad would fit the epitaph. God bless.
In a way, I was luckier. When he was diagnosed as terminal my father took me for a long walk & talk. I saw it coming, but it didn’t make things any easier. Had a chance to speak to him over the phone (different city) a few days before he died. Still hurts, and that was thirty years ago.

I have never been so moved by a cartoon.
But of course DBD is so much more than a cartoon.
May the memory of your father remain a blessing to you and all those who knew him through your work.

Jesus Christ, Chris. You made and old man cry. I’m 74 years old and remember this day like it was this morning.
I have no words of condolence because I know nothing will help. They’re just words.
Just know, I feel so sorry this had to happen to you…..and your Dad.

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better, infinitely happier and forever we will all be one together with Christ.

Two days before my father died, we watched “Dirty Old Men” and “Dirtier Old Men” together at his bedside. Over the intervening years, I have always recalled this time with fondness and joy as Burgess Meredith’s character completely captured the essence that was my father. I recommend them to you in the months to come. God Bless You

Mere words are never enough, but our prayers and condolences are all we can offer. My father went suddenly and my mother after a slow spiral down. I was prepared for neither. I don’t think anybody can be ready for anything this painful. Let the memories and prayers carry you through this.
Chris – God’s peace and prayers… may you remember your father’s greatness and his impact as you heal your loss.

Take some time to work things out, we can live with repeats until then.
We all live in the flow of the River of Time. There are rocks, shoals, rapids and quiet backwaters, but eventually we all reach the Deep Blue. May your father rest with those he joins, with the Lord of All. May you find peace.

Aww dammit…..
Amen.

May his memory be eternal.
Amen.

Been there done that, but it’s never easy. Thoughts & prayers are with you….

Chris, there are no words for a time like this, only prayers for comfort and grace. I lost my dad on Election Day 2000, and it still hurts. The strip today broke my heart. May God hold you and yours close to Him.
There are no words. Vaya con Dios, Mr. Muir.
You and you family are in my thoughts and prayers, CM. My most profound sympathy.

eon
Sorry for your loss, Chris. 🙁
Chris,
I am truly sorry for your loss. Like you, my Dad was my best friend! After 14 yrs I miss him every day!
What I read at my father’s funeral in December 2013:
A reading from the Book Of Wisdom, 3:1-6, 9.
The souls of the just are in the hand of God,
and no torment shall touch them.
They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead;
and their passing away was thought an affliction
and their going forth from us, utter destruction.
But they are in peace.
For if in the eyes of men, indeed they be punished,
yet is their hope full of immortality;
Into the Light and GodSpeed.
Condolences.
Very sorry, Chris.
Been there, three years ago March 13. He was 98 and it was time, but still too early for us who remain. Thanks for sharing him with us, and for sharing your grief, too. Take your time.
I’m so sorry, Chris. Words fail me. But my thoughts are with you and your family.
Chris,
So very sorry for your loss.
Thank you for sharing your Dad and your relationship with all of us through Day by Day.
No more fences indeed. He soars on eagle’s wings.
May God bless and hold you and your family in the palm of his hand.
The world has lost a great man today… Our families prayers go with you. May the wind always whisper his name to you, May the stars shine with his spirit, And may he walk in peace in that place where joy sings from every throat, the sunsets do not fade, and the forever trees grow.
Sorry Chris. It happens to all of us but we are never really ready.
Sorry for your loss. If I were as close to my sons as you were to your Dad I’d be blessed.
So sorry to hear the news. Thanks for telling it so well.
I lost my Dad the very day my Son (A Corpsman like me) came home from Iraq. I hope that God gives you something wonderful like that to ease your loss.
I lost my father in 1985, and as I have lived since I have gained insight into how strong he really was. And I am now older and with grown children, and my greatest comfort in life is seeing the people they have grown to be. I am sure that you were a great comfort to him. May you and yours find solace.
No matter how expected the imminent demise, the loss is no less painful. Please accept my condolences.
I am sorry.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
So very sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your family.
Words cannot convey…….
I grieve with you and for you.
I am sorry for your loss.
Condolences, Chris.
Memory eternal…
My father passed 9 years ago. Not a day goes by without me thinking to ask him about something, tell him something he’d be interested in, or tell him about my first grandchild.
My deepest sympathy for your loss.
My sympathies… nothing else to say.
Tarnation! Coming in late on this one, Chris (computer probs last night, extending into today). Been there, done that. Know it’s hard. Prayers offered before I commented. More later. May he rest, finally, at peace.
A worthy testament to your Dad is the son he raised.
Deepest condolences, Chris. I was referred to DBD from The Truth About Guns website over a year ago and haven’t missed a day of DBD since. You and it are great treasures.
Pipe ye the Master to home.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Muir.
Sorry about losing your Dad, Chris.
God Bless you and yours.
I am so saddened to read of your father’s passing, Chris. Nothing hurts as much or in quite the same way as the loss of a parent. I know your father was a good man, because he raised a good son. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
So sorry for your loss
It’s never easy to have a loved one pass away. My condolences to you and your family.
Our hearts are with you, Chris.
My deepest condolences Chris. I’m so sorry. I know that’s not enough, but it’s all I got.
That hurt. Having been there, I know.
Chris,
So sorry for your loss. Blessings on getting through this. What is remembered lives.
Chris:
Our deepest condolences….. My wife just lost her mother a couple weeks ago, and while a lot of Mother-In-Law jokes apply, we both miss her (as do her two granddaughters) and son. It takes a while. My parents are, unfortunately long gone, but well remembered.
And, that’s my point: At some time in the future, you’ll forget all the bad stuff, if any, and remember only the the good stuff. Then, when you recall them, smile.
In the meantime, may his memory be a blessing.
RIP
Condolences to you and your family for your loss.
Keep your heart full of good memories.
Every man’s death diminishes me…
I am so sorry for your loss Chris.
A Jeez, I am so sorry. My condolences Chris. I know what it is like to lose your father.
Condolences.
Sorry, Chris, I know how it feels. Take it easy for awhile.
My condolences and prayers, sir. Lost mine, who was born in ’31 also, a few years ago. It’s never easy, but life does go on. Peace.
To say I am saddened for your loss is completely inadequate. But,I don’t have the words.
Keep the good memories. God’s peace to all of you.
In Nomine Patrii et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Requiescat In Pace.
It hurts. When my father went, after a long and wonderful life, I became the patriarch.
I ask his advice all the time. He’s not gone, just moved on.
You have my deepest sympathy.
You are in our thoughts and prayers, our friend.
Condolences, Chris. May happy memories bring you comfort.
Praying for your loss. I just don’t have the inspirational words to give other than a fan shares your pain.
“O sweet mother Mary,
who knew the sadness of mourning those your heart loved most,
Jesus, your Son,
and Joseph, your devoted spouse,
pray for us in our time of loss.
Amen.”
Good is so good that he can make more than one Best Dad Ever.
Every day since I lost my father I find that he has gotten smarter and better.
I always thought I would have enough time for him to tell me all about his life. My father lived to 94 and every day I wish he was around so I could ask him more about his past. Like your father Chris, a great man. We were so blessed.
Chris, may God-Family+Friends be especially comforting to You and Yours in special honor for your Great Father and Friend.
Aw, shit, man… So, so very sorry. Godspeed.
Mine left six months ago. The best of him remains forever. God bless your family at this and all times.
May his memory be a blessing.
Jeff
Wow! Sorry. 🙁
I had one of those.
I hope I’m one of those.
– Charlie
Very sorry, Chris…
Condolences and prayers, Chris.
Oh, man. There aren’t words. Prayers for him and you both.
Requiescat in pace….
Brother, I know how it feels. Would to God I could have been with mine to hold him when he crossed over in 02. My heart is with you. Blessed be his soul. And blessed be yours. Feel the love I send, understanding the pain.
Love and hugs, cuz, love and hugs. And many prayers. We’ve been there, just last year with my husband’s family. Contact me if you need a shoulder.
I am sorry for your loss.
Your father must have been a great man, as he raised a great son. My prayers are with you.
20 years ago my Dad died in my arms. My condolences Chris for your loss. Nothing compensates for that loss, but every minute of that life must be valued remembering the cost of that loss. So lucky to have our fathers.
As we said in the fleet,
Shipmate you stand relieved… we have the watch…
well said, well said 🙁
Chris—It is a major milestone in one’s life when your dad passes away. But I am impressed with the type of fine man your late father helped you to become. Take a look at the three panels of the artwork that you created for your readers today. It is a fitting tribute to a passing father from his son for the world to see.
All I can offer is my deepest sympathy.
Others here have said things far better that I ever could…..
My condolences on your loss, Chris. May he rest in peace.
Sympathy and prayers for you and yours.
Brutha the pain of your loss shows through in your art. Beautifully done and a tribute not only to him but to your love for him as well. My prayers go out to you and yours.
Peace and Strength to you, Brother!
Sorry for your loss . The world is a darker place now that this light has left us..
My deepest condolences
Chris:
We never get over the death of family and the loss of our “guide posts” in life: We just get through the pain and keep moving. May GOD, our creator and sustained, keep you until that day when you’re united again and may you find Hope in HIS eternal promises and Guidance as you move forward in life.
David Gibson
I am speechless. So sudden there and so sad. We send our prayers, love and support.
Many condolences for your loss.
You have my condolences.
-Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
Chris, your tribute is no less poignant in your loss. Remember the good times.
Heartfelt sympathies on your loss.
So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sorry for your loss Chris…
So sorry my friend!
Pop has been gone 32 years and I still miss him evevy day.
You have my heartfelt condolences.
Our deepest condolences.
It is said a person dies two times. Once when their heart stops beating, and the second (and final) time, when their name is last spoken. Keep his memory alive as I try to do for my mom and dad, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
You were blessed to know him.
Sometimes, we don’t even get to know the ones we would love…..
So sorry to hear of your loss.
Treasure the joy, forgive the faults, and ensure his wisdom is passed along to those that need it. That will keep him in your heart until you are united once again. God bless you and yours.
So sorry to see this news. Thank you so much for sharing the passage of Mr. Wade Muir with us. May the both of you stay forever young.
Chris, I’m so sorry. I lost mine two years ago to Parkinson’s(well, he was really gone before then).
I will drink a toast to his memory.
Tragic! My heart is breaking for you and your family. Chris, even though he is gone he will always be with you if you will listen. May God bless and heal the hurt you are all feeling today.
Rejoice! Celebrate! Remember the good times and the lessons learned.
Rest in peace kind sir, you have earned it.
God be with ye!
and with your folk, living, and dead.
My deepest condolences.
My condolences, and may he meet the big guy with his head up and his shoulders squared.
Strength to you and all who knew him.
I am so sorry for your loss. May happy memories be your thoughts.
Grace and peace to you and yours Chris.
My condolences.
The pain will pass. Mostly.
All the good remains.

UNDER the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie:
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you ‘grave for me:
Here he lies where he long’d to be;
Home is the sailor, home from the sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

Amen.

Hang in there my friend.
Sorrow for your loss but happyness at the title – No More Fences for him.
I lost my dad now goin on 7 years – seems forever – yet I am happy he is with the Lord.
May GOD Bless you and your family. HE already blessed your Dad. Renew, restore, and keep the faith. The civilized world needs you, Chris.

Humble and grateful thanks to you both. May your Dad now indeed, Rest in Peace.

All the best! In prayer… Trubador

Hi Chris
I was a friend of you dad since 1964. He is a great loss to me and a lot of people who loved and admired him. We worked together on several jobs. We met on the deck design he did on the 24′ Excaliber boat. He has also done a truck and a car for the Cyclone engine and just recently brought by a beautiful golf cart drawing for the Cyclone. We were starting to work on another project. So sorry he will be missed.

My condolences, Chris. Your artwork and message is a wonderful tribute
to your Dad.
Don’t let his memory die.
God Bless………:(
Condolences to you and yours, Mr. Muir…
I’m also sorry for your loss. I read the comic and when I hit that last panel and saw that it mirrored a real event, I couldn’t believe it. Be well and take your time. Don’t rush anything. Be with those who have also been left behind.
This has stung all day,,,, I hope these many words of love and condolence ease your heart and lead you to peace, brother. May the Lord hold you close as he does your father.
I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Your strip says it all, and you have my condolences, sir. May God bless him and keep him and lift him up, and may God’s face shine upon him and give him peace. Be strong my friend.
Very sorry for your loss, Chris.
holy crap this comic just hit me hard. I just saw my dad this past weekend and I don’t know many more times I will see him. lots of onions around here now. godspeed.
Sincere condolences, Chris. I lost my dad in 2010 and am about to lose my mom. It is a pain in the heart.
My sincere condolences for your loss, Chris. While so many of us have never had the privilege to meet him in person, we’ve no doubt seen the best of him through your work. You need only to find a mirror to see his legacy. Continue to do him proud, and God bless his soul, yourself, and your family.
Chris Muir,
By heart goes out to you. I lost my father one week ago today.
Condolences and very sorry for your loss , Chris. I worry about my dad too, every day. Prayers and more .
So sorry for your loss.
I’ve never seen so many heart-felt posts, anywhere. You mean much to us all.
I say to you, sincerely, from my family to yours — We grieve with thee…. Viya con Dios.
Chris, I am so very sorry for your loss.
Condolences
My sincerest condolences to you and your family.
I know how it feels… coming up on the third anniversary of my father passing on.
It still hurts.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Chris,
You and your father are in my prayers.
Chris, I’m still wiping tears. Real men do cry. My prayers are with you.

condolences from Australia, Chris. Best wishes to you and your family
You and your family are in our prayers.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
‘Neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.
Grieve that he is gone. Be glad that he went quickly and without great pain. Grieve that you have lost a great father, friend. Rejoice that you had him as your father for so long. I lost my best friend / father / best drinking buddy two years ago to “complications of Alzheimer’s”. I talk with him every night among the stars.
Our condolences to you and your family, please accept our prayers that you all find peace in his passing.
My condolences to you and your family, along with hope that eventually you will not be sorry he died but rather glad he lived.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me;
“Here he lies where he longed to be,
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.”
I’m so sorry for your loss !!!!
So sorry for your loss. Thank you for your contribution to America and to him for the fact that he taught you well.
Deepest sympathy Chris, and a beautiful tribute by you. He was a lucky man to have such a family.
Chris, your father is in Heaven and enjoying his reward. Please take the time to heal. BTW, I’ve enjoyed your comics for years but because I don’t use paypall I cannot pay you for services rendered. Is there a PO Box where I could send a money order or even just cash?
My condolences to you and yours, friend.
You have my prayers and condolences Chris.
What a beautiful tribute Chris. Peace be upon you and yours in a difficult time. Prayers out Brother.
I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family
My prayers are with you and yours. I understand but you will always have tose best dad memories, cherish them and share them
VERY sorry for your loss and that of your family. May the good memories of your father bring you comfort – tough, tough times. Prayers.
Sorry for your troubles.
Chris, my thought and prayers are with you and your family.
Sorry for your loss, may his memory be a blessing to you and yours and everyone whose life he touched.
Prayers and condolences sir. I’ll raise a glass of Kentucky Bourbon neat in his honor tonight.
Lo there do I see my father; Lo there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers; Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call me, they bid me take my place among them, in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.
My condolences, sir.
You have immortalized him.
I’m sorry for your loss. Your memories of him will be with you always to guide you.
A very moving, simple tribute.
I’m sorry for your loss.
My condolences.
Please accept our deepest sympathy! May God comfort you and your family in yur sorrow. ♥♥
I”m sorry for your loss.
Chris, Very moving – sorry for your loss, prayers for you-all.
I’m sorry to hear of your loss sir. My apologies for the latness of my comment, I have been travelling once again. My thoughts are with you and yours and as always if there is anything I can do please feel free to reach out
God bless you and your family.
Your tribute to your father speaks volumes about him and you. God Bless and keep him. It reminded me of Dad’s passing.
Very sorry about your loss. I have lost both my parents, so I speak from experience. Prayers for you and your family.
Mr. Muir, please know that for every person who has posted here, there are 7-10 of us who don’t know what to say… May God comfort your in your time of mourning
Thoughts and prayers, sir. Take care of you and yours. The wider world will abide a while yet. We’ll be here. And we’ll do what we can to keep our own little patches of this great nation in order.
Peace.
My deepest, deepest condolences. We all celebrated his life through you.
Sorry for your loss. God bless you and your family.
:’-(
I’m sorry for your loss. I’m glad that you had lots of time with your Dad. Men can’t mourn their father as women mourn their mothers; we become our fathers in order to honor their memory. Cherish your memories of him and absorb his strength. He will be with you forever.
Christopher, I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart is broken for you, and for the pain you’re feeling now.
My condolences to you and yours Chris.
Chris,
I’m so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
my condolences
I’m so sorry for your loss. He is with the Lord, as we shall all be one day.
May “The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: 25The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace”
Sorry for your loss. The world needs more upright men; the loss of one is a blow. I will always miss my father.
Chris, I just now noticed the list of characters…
“Dad, Me, Wade, Zed”
Caught me off-guard, and I almost choked up again. Powerful.
I know you have family and real-world friends there, but you have my cell and I could be there in a few hours if you need help. Seriously.
Now that I can come back to that artistic memorial…
Had to walk away. Very rare, except for my family, that I teared up for.
CHRIS: That is a Striking vivid Remembrance. Heart rending.
Your best work….ever! Very touching, sorry for your loss. It was a pleasure getting to know your dad through your art.
Till we meet in in Valhalla,
Where we meet, shake hands and smile.
Mike
My deepest sympathy for your loss, God Bless you and yours.
My deepest sympathy and condolences for your loss.

Heartfelt condolences. He obviously was a great leader and teacher based on your views of things.
Chris,
I am very sorry to hear of you loss. Praying for all of you.
Chris,
Lost my pop a couple of years ago. Had to give the eulogy. Yours made me cry.
Your friend in Kennesaw, Mike
May your dad RIP. God bless him and your family.
My condolences to you and your family, Chris.
Sorry for your loss, Chris!
But be aware he was very proud of you!
—Ron “Ronbo” Barbour, Seattle
My condolences,
My Pop died back ’85 working on Mom’s car.
always said he would die with his boots on
-not a bad way to go. He wanted to
be tied on the back of a paint horse and let
loose on the range.instead of a burial.
can’t do that any more..
he was an old Cowboy/Indian. taught me
more than i could say. he’d be 104 if he
was still alive .
Prayers to you and yours..
My condolences.
You never get over losing a good dad.
Wow, this panel hurt me as much as when I lost my own “best dad.” With tears and lump in my throat, I offer my sincere condolences.
No words. Our condolences to you and prayers are with you and your family.
My condolences to you and your family.
Friends,
Any word on arrangements?
Sincere condolences to y’all. reminds me of how much i miss my dad. Heaven’s peace to you and yours.
Thoughts and prayers.
“Oh Lord, listen to your children praying,
Oh Lord, send your spirit to this place…
Oh Lord, listen to your children praying,
Send us love, send us power, send us grace.”
Fernando Ortega
May the God of love, grace, and peace be with you always!
Rest with the saints, Mr. Muir.
So sorry for your loss. Prayers for your family.
My dad died June 14, so I commiserate.
My condolences, Chris.
Nobody ever really dies, Chris; it just gets harder to see them for a while.
December 2, 1977 and I am still working through it. Sons, especially eldest sons, have a relationship with Dad that cannot be explained only grieved when Dad dies.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Chris. And “mere words” are so inadequate.
I pray that you and your family may find comfort in this time of grief.
I am truly sorry for your loss. Sounds like your father was a great man.
My father was never close to me nor me to him but reading your strip told me most definitely that you two were very close and gave me little bits of insight as to what it might have been like.
I thank you ever so much and shall raise a shot to your father for the next few days.
Condolences.
Sorry to hear this.
sad
Deepest sympathy to you and your family.
My prayers to you and your family.
I am very sorry to learn of your loss.
Dear Chris,
Thank-you for such a touching tribute to your dad worked into your strip so perfectly.
Chris, we will continue to pray for you and your family, that you will find peace and joy in knowing that your dad was a great man , father, and mentor to his son, family and others.
Our prayers will be will you and I will pray for you for comfort and God’s blessing and strength on your life Chris. Feel free to call or send a note when you feel like talking/sharing or just letting it out.
Love and best wishes for you and your family, and thanks again for such a touching tribute Chris – it reached us all.

Don’t matter how many times I’ve looked at this, it still hits hard specially the final panel. :.(
Thoughts and prayers
Lost my Dad after a long decline 3 1/2 years ago. Nothing ever made me feel so lonely and lost as that.
My condolences.
My prayers and condolences. Your love and respect for your dad were obvious. I’m sure he knew it.
I share your sense of loss. Know that you are proof that he has left the world a better place. God Bless You.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Chris.
So sorry for you loss, Chris. He must have been one heck of a guy. May the Lord comfort you and your family.
My deepest condolences, Chris. May the Lord watch over you and your family.
My prayers are with you. Do keep his memory alive with stories and remembrances.
My deepest condolences, Chris. I don’t know what the modern equivalent is of ” He was a good man with a horse and rifle” but what ever it is, I am sure your Dad would fit the epitaph. God bless.
My condolences as well, Chris.
Gaté, gaté, paragaté, parasamgaté.
Bodhi! Svaha!
Our condolences to you and your family.
Chris, I am so very sorry about your loss.
Sorry for your loss. All my finest to you and your family.
Jesus Christ, Chris. You made and old man cry. I’m 74 years old and remember this day like it was this morning.
I have no words of condolence because I know nothing will help. They’re just words.
Just know, I feel so sorry this had to happen to you…..and your Dad.
My deepest sympathies on your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family, and all his friends.
Henry Scott Holland
So sorry for your loss, Chris. Best to you and to your family.
Sorry for your loss. You have my prayers for you and your family.
My condolences. I lost my father when he was 53, and now that my mother is 93, she’s not sure how much longer she’ll be around. Go with God, Mr. Muir.
Just know that we love you and yours, and we’ll be here for you. Prayers up.
God Bless You
Thoughts and prayers for you and yours.
Very sad for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family.
600 responses! Take comfort that there are so many who follow you and want to bring you comfort. Your loss is painful and I join the others who understand how powerfully felt it is and wish to hold you up through this difficult time.

‘No more fences’ — ‘Sothlice’ = ‘Truly spoken’
Prayers to you and your family. Do sorry for your loss…
Sorry to hear of your loss, Chris. I’ve got you and yours in my thoughts…
My condolences and prayers are with you and yours. Fair winds and following seas James…
From our family to yours, our deepest sympathies.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you.
Chris – The simple fact that you have over 600 responses says what great work your father did, in his actions and how he taught you.
