I haven’t watched TV in about 5 yrs except a random Antiques Road Show or Sherlock. I liked Top Gear until Clarkson messed it all up. I read at least a book a week, sometimes more. Much more interesting than the complete dreck on the boob tube today. I can’t believe the crap my wife watches…

So true. I’ve long maintained that “intelligent” and “smart” are not congruent terms. Too many of the dumbest people I have met were possessed of the highest IQs I’ve ever encountered (BTW, the main reason I gave up on Mensa several decades ago, aside from the seemingly endemic liberal leanings of its members.).
If forced to choose between “intelligent” and “smart,” I’ll choose “smart” every time.
I still laugh at some the plans I saw for projects that were “ready” for permitting and implementation.

I have near reverence for those few that are the most brilliant of humans.
In essentially every case, fictional geniuses are shown as parodies. I used the word “essentially” — even though I have never seen these folks depicted in any way but parody. (Old, crazy hair, half-mutant, evil, yada…)
And Javier is a brilliant move, and can fit in any story arc.
I have often said that some of the dumbest people I ever met and interacted with were some of the most intelligent as measured on a scale.
Our twisted and perverted system of academia mostly wastes -or worse, hijacks- some of the best brainpower among us.
Then there are those like Halley and GWB mention who pervert themselves…like every single one of them I’ve met who wear their little “mensa” tag out in public.
I enjoyed Jan’s little adopted cowboy colloquialism “Damon and me guess his IQ’s north of 190” though she should have said “reckon” 😉 It shows that in spite of her leftism neither the inflicted or adopted perversions I mentioned have infected her, and combined with the influence of the bright and cocky Damon and the other DBD denizens, Javier is sure to be immune, free to transform the world and turn it upside down (or reform and turn it back rightside up).

I’m in the end game of raising my own personal Damon. (graduating with an 8.0 from the Cow College on the Plain) I can tell it was a battle at every turn in the Public Screwls.
We just gave up trying to get the curriculum fixed and started sending her to the local “Harvard on the Hill” JC. My Pretty Snowflake took 11 classes over three years while finishing high school. Another 5 and she would have received an Associates degree. It took Pretty Wife climbing up their regulatory colon and numerous threats of lawsuits to make that happen. You do what you have to do to protect your kids.
The thing is it left a wake in the school district for other parents to follow and it led to some changes for the better but these will be eroded over time. As the gradual slide of the gen pop collective intelligence declines the unsmarty operators will take over.
It will be back to football and cheerleaders as the measure of a school. (note that the sign on the edge of town for the State Title in Bass Fishing is twice the size of the State Math Championship sign but at least they listed the record for my daughters class of 2nd, 2nd, 1st and 2nd over 4 years in small print.) If you have kids, read the school handbook and use it against them. Run for the local school board or actively support a candidate who is like minded. All politics are local.
Barring some kind of genetic leap or adoption, I’m sure you meant Javier and not Damon. 🙂
But absolutely lack of the kind of hands-on parental activism you speak of and engaged in created the sucking vacuum that allowed the disastrous leftist narrative that education has been become to rush in to fill that void.

Yes, I’m terrible with names but I did remember the Bloom County kid, Oliver.
As to the erosion, It took two years to drive the Math teacher who guided that group of kids to such heights out of the school district. They haven’t made the state finals since but they got a new football practice field while the math team held car washes to buy calculators for competition. By the way that team had to beat the University of Chicago Lab School for the State title.
I repeat, if you have kids that show any type of special ability, take a lawyer to your first parent teacher conference and ask what the school district is doing to take care of your kids needs. It’s the one thing I should have done when we began this odyssey.
Another aside, the kids on that team are either getting engineering degrees or going on to med school or other graduate programs. Also the year in which they were born, 1994, also produced a bumper crop of perfect GPA’s in college. The Associate Dean of Student Affairs made this comment about the fact that they had never seen 5 grads of the engineering program graduate with 4.0’s at one time. All 5 are conservative in the “Don’t complain to me about the results you didn’t get from the work you didn’t do” school.

The school laws say that all students must be accommodated (if possible?).
That does not only refer to the lower end of the scale. The high end intelligence students are special needs students also. Laws can be used to that effect.
Would we want all of our special needs intelligent students to turn out like Soros, Brzezinski, Rothschild, Dimons, and the many others who would execute most of the world on a whim of their supposed superiority? no.
These children need a strong conscience developed. Our familiy’s village in Hungary had a special teaching of all of the children of the important things in life that went on for hundreds of years until it ended in 1989. It was separate from the schools and there is a tree my great grandmother taught under that is still called the Learning Tree. My mother helped instill a conscience in me. I remember some of the discussions we had when I was a small child. I can see how it is so easy to crush people and I might have done it without a conscience. It does often put me at a disadvantage when going up against sociopaths without such natural limiters of actions. Civilization requires those with conscience to hold enough sway to prevent a return to barbarism. And the ability to realize when the barbarous enemies must be destroyed without permitting conscience to limit the destruction of the evildoing barbarians. That is a hard decision when one has a conscience. But a necessary decision. there many paths to avoid those drastic actions, but, sometime the right move is horrific. Realize, of course, that the evil ones would not hesitate a second to fully destroy the civilized ones.
