So, it does sound like you and Delilah may finally get your wish for some man candy to go with the lovely female eye candy.

As you mentioned it was the age of corsets, lace and big muskets with ram rods.

If we’d started progressive, we’d have progressed into dictatorship long ago.

Progressive states are a form of the “Water Monopoly Empire” (also known as a hydraulic despotism, ) It is a social or government structure which maintains power and control through exclusive control over access to water. It arises through the need for flood control and irrigation, which requires central coordination and a specialized bureaucracy.

This body is a political structure which is commonly characterized by a system of hierarchy and control often based around class or caste. Power, both over resources (food, water, energy) and a means of enforcement such as the military are vital for the maintenance of control.
The bureaucracy eventually becomes thoroughly corrupt, but because it can crush any internal dissent, there is no risk of revolt from within. However, the system can reach the point where it is so rotted from within that it will readily fall to an external threat, be it a hoard of barbarians, even a single barbarian, or a barbaric concept, such as individual liberty, beamed in by communications that the State cannot block (Soviet Union vs the Internet)
See Larry Niven’s “A World Out of Time” for an excellent synopsis of how a Water Monopoly Empire works, and eventually falls, and L Neil Smith’s “The Probability Broach” for how propaganda beamed in by a transmitter powerful enough to vibrate bed springs can topple a Czar.

Looking forward to RedVolution 1776. It will be intresting to see what Mr. Muir has in mind that will spawn a new comic strip.

Also… more Skye, who from an “eye candy” viewpoint, is a brunette version of Sam. Question — are they twins? I can’t remember… She could turn out to be a “good girl” — or is she a ticking time bomb, just waiting to go off at the worst possible moment?

    Regards,
    Tom Stockton

Poop just when things are getting interesting, I have to go to Fort Hood for three weeks of fun in the sun. On the bright side I’ll have a large backlog to peruse upon my return.

PS: Chris how far is the DDQ from Hood? Commuting distance? Remember an M1 only gets 3 to 5 gallons per mile so it would need to be close.

    • June 2, 2017 at 10:11 am
      Plasticman

Rough guess would be 7 hours minimum in an M1. And that’s if the place is as close as Del Rio. I’m sure the beautiful red headed DBD archivist Pamela can tell us for sure where the DDQ is located. I can’t recall.

I don’t have the map coordinates at this point in time.

      Old Codger

SgtCpt, it’s around 450 miles by highway. I thought I recalled the DDQ being in the vicinity of Marfa and Ft Hood to Marfa is a tad under 450 miles depending on what kind of road you want to travel on.

Straight line distance Ft Hood tanker playground to Marfa is around 180 miles. Lotta open country but there has to be a coupla places even an M1 would probably have to go around. Problem is, baha-ing across the open country like that there aren’t just a whole lot of places to fuel one of those beasts up.

“…if we began as a blue progressive state…”

    Unpossible. But ultimately irrelevant.

To devolve into progressivism, aka socialism, requires an existing system of productivity, aka capitalism. Can’t steal and destroy what ain’t yet built.

Say the Brits had encouraged or at least did not interfere with, a new independent nation of separatists who could build a society based on ingenuity, desire, hard work, and the God-given/man-developed resources of this New World, free from the control and taxation of the Old World. But even with that head-start success is only temporary as human nature and envy take hold.

No doubt the cancerous growth of greed and avarice inherent in leftism would begin almost immediately within this brave new world though, and within let’s say seven or eight decades would have grown a debilitating tumor of redistribution (aka centralized control) that, just as in the old world, choked off independence, nationalized assets, resources, and the products of their development.

That’s where the gray area comes in, and of course it did, doing battle with the bloated blue area, along about 1861. But by then the old new world was too large and too strong, controlling the military and having learned to use disingenuous pretext and outright lies to rally public opinion and overwhelming numbers against the separation and creation of a new new world, a sovereign nation.

Ahead another 150 years we find ourselves again under attack from the comfortably established and fatted elites who once again employ the stolen assets of capitalist productivity and all of the weapons of force and coercion within and without government to preserve and extend their reign and regime, buying and importing support for its continuance.

And again the freedom fighters rebel, this time against their own gov and the whole rest of the world that has made itself in the socialist image supported primarily by the sweat of freedom’s brow. And again the threat of separation is real, and again the possibility of armed resistance is real. Some very brave figures have stepped forward to lead (though many traitors fly a false flag of rebel support), and a cascade of rebel warriors is ready to do battle.

    “Realvolution 2016”.

Helluva story this will be; outcome uncertain.

    Who’s gonna write it? Us.

“No doubt the cancerous growth of greed and avarice inherent in leftism would begin almost immediately within this brave new world…”

      Yup.

“Men by their constitution are naturally divided into two parties.

      1. Those who fear and distrust the people and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes.

2dly those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depository of the public interests.

In every country these two parties exist, and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves. Call them therefore liberals and serviles, Jacobins and Ultras, Whigs and Tories, republicans and federalists, they are the same parties still and pursue the same object.”

Ref: Redvolutionary1776 and it’s utterly salacious [pictorially] and highly offensive referral to those who surrounded the apotheosis of G.Washington [cite: Capitol Dome, Washington DC]

Chris, methinks that Ben Franklin [publisher and well-known ‘bon vivant’ would hold you in esteem but John Adams might be a bit too uptight to go beyond the apparent ‘cover’ illustration! I look forward to seeing how this plays out but would guess that the upcoming pledge drive might be in play!
