Oh, that we could mete out those punishments of former centuries.
There would be a slew of heads bedecking the ramparts around Mordor-on-the-Potomac at first. But that would reduce as the crooks (politicians, bureaucrats, AND the lawyers) were either executed, scared honest, or never entered service.
The stench of the Swamp would slowly lift and dissipate.

I object to your characterization of Washington DC as “Mordor-on-the-Potomac,” as it is an undeserved and unconscionable slur on an otherwise fine, upstanding community and its leadership.

I’m referring, of course, to Mordor, Sauron, and the Nazgul. Shame on you, DBW, for such odious slander!

You can always spot a “progressive”, because no matter what they do and no matter how wrong, they expect to be rewarded for it because their dogma demanded it and of course they had good intentions- according to their worldview.

Never mind what is paved with good intentions. Most of them have never read that book and even the ones who have wish it didn’t exist.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

He’ll get part of it, but nothing until he’s 57. That’s 8 years away. Poor fellow will have to find a job in the real world, perhaps something asking people ‘Would you like fries with that?’ (snorrrttt!)

What’s next? Oh! The Austin bombs now number 6, in total. One blew up on a San Antonio Fed Ex conveyor belt, the other was at an Austin Fed Ex depot and was caught in time. I worry that this is the work of some very nasty people who are not US.

So if the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility recommended firing McCabe and they’re supposedly nonpartisan, why would they wait until this late in the game to make such a recommendation? Were they hoping Sessions would let it ride? Or are they trying to make POTUS look bad?

No need to use Vlad’s method from Transylvania of old. Vlad learned it from the Muslims. Vlad earned his moniker for outdoing the Muslims in deadly depravity.
It did leave a visible warning, and a Muslim army turned back and left upon encountering one display.

I am a traditionalist in many things. I believe that the old English penalty for high treason involved being hung by the neck, and cut down while still yet living, being drawn and his entrails set afire before his living eyes, and the corpse beheaded. The body quartered, the sections tarred, and placed over the city gates until consumed by ravens. Ah, the good old days.

Or if you want to go back farther, there is the classic Brazen or Sicilian Bull.

I liked the way the Germans used to handle these things (long before Adolph.) They would nail the miscreants head to an oak tree, where the culprit stayed until the bones disappeared.

If there is anything that the muslims do right, it is public executions. In order to make a statement and an example, the criminal should be dispatched in full daylight before a crowd of onlookers. I tend to prefer the procedure where a noose is placed around the perp’s neck and the other end of the rope is attached to the end of a cable hanging down from a crane. After tying only his hands behind him and with no hood over the head, the crane operator retracts the cable until the perp is about 20 feet off the ground. And there is where he remains for about 30 minutes or so.

    A truly effective demonstration.

I guess I’m squeamish. I prefer the hanging where the condemned is killed in seconds by the drop. If in public it’s still effective. The body can be left on display.

I’ve read that at one time in the Old West, one locale had such a problem that they devised a new technique…the thief would be put on his horse, taken out of town with his hands tied behind his back, a noose would be placed and the rope tied to a suitable limb.
Then everyone would leave, giving him the choice of waiting for the horse to decide to head back to the stable while hoping someone would come along to let him free, or kicking it himself and getting it over.

You guys are far too easy. If you really want to make someone wither, ostracism also works….

No one will talk to you, serve you, answer your calls for help – nothing. You can’t even buy food because no one will take your contaminated money. People turn their backs to you. You are driven out of society.

You no longer exist to anyone at all.

    • March 21, 2018 at 9:42 am
      Doggo

Ostracism is hard to coordinate in a large community. There’s always folks who either don’t know who “that” person is, haven’t gotten the message that “that” person needs to be ignored, or just plain don’t care.

      Deplorable B Woodman

I remember an episode from a later generation (80s? 90s?) of either Twilight Zone or Outer Limits (pale imitations of the originals) based on that theme of punishment by ostracism. No prisons necessary. And the punished person was marked with a large wart on their forehead that could not be covered up by makeup or hat.
Interesting concept. And almost doable today.

Okay, time for “2nd Amendment for dummies.”:
    Since we know that power corrupts, we have limited that, but since men are corruptible we’re likely to go overboard to gain more power than granted in the Constitution, so how about we do this;
Let the citizens be armed with the weapons needed, so that when we go to far they can kill us and install new government as founded or as they see fit.

    Yessir, that about covers it.

They got an Austin bomber but was he the Austin Bomber. To quote “The Sniper” again, “We’re good but not that good.” Too much trivial details, no specifics about the type of bomb or detonation specifics. They got a lucky break from the Fed-Ex store. Figured out who and got a warrant to search Google history, then found his car all in less than a half day. These are the guys who couldn’t find Hillary’s e-mails. Total patsy who is now an inkstain. Only in the tiny minds of the Lame Stream Media did one hear such phrases as “Fear and panic in Texas,” “calls for FBI and federal government to ‘do something'”, blah blah blah. Just look at the SJW’s calling for gun control. The idea is to make it palatable for big brother to be the solution to your problems to the critical mass minority and laws will be passed that curtail your personal freedoms. This is another step on the slippery slope to serfdom.

This “confession” the bomber left is likely bullshit. The dude was experimenting with design variations to see what worked best. Likely all they got was a copy of his notes about design changes. That’s why each of the devices was described, by which they declared that they believe they have accounted for all of them.

You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher.
