In college I took a class in middle eastern history. We had to do a notebook answering certain questions. First question was “What happened during this period?”. Some guys took over 100 pages (typed) to answer it with one guy doing almost 200! The period under study was 250 years. Those people have been killing each other since FREAKING FOREVER! Before Moo Ham Ed it was tribes of Arabs killing each other. After Moo Ham Ed it was “tribes” of Mud-slimes killing other”tribes” over doctrinal points SMALLER than the differences between Southern Baptists and Primitive Baptists. Moo Ham Ed changed nothing!

For the record, I agreed with Kirk in the film. Also, that accurately portrayed the difference between the actors’ politics. Shatner is very much a conservative while Nemoy was as much a libtard as Spock would have been to try and broker peace among the Klingons.

And I hear The Sudis have moved troops in. Hence the balance continues as it was.

Islam continues in its centuries old dance. Shia, Sunni, others. It’s Islam. People die. Let them do it without us.

And no US troops getting chewed up in combat as the Muslim president made sure happened for eight years. The personnel are the valuable people involved. The material can all be replaced.
And we sell more USA made war supplies to the Saudis.
And the Kurds will not be attacked in force as they might have been with the USA forces gone. (Typical shifting alliances as in Islamic history)
Our people not getting maimed and killed, and selling USA made goods.
    What’s not to like.

Star Trek is a great source for inspiration if this is the result.

I also like the Gorn episode where Kirk told the Arkon (?) that as a species we are killers, and we choose not to kill today. That was his reason to not kill the Gorn commander whom he had defeated and held the knife to the Gorn’s throat, then let it go. The Gorn starship had been used by the Gorn to kill all in a Federation Colony.
    I do have a Psychology degree. 🙂

Captains Kirk and Trump are both right…let ’em die.

Because WAR! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing if it’s not our war.

Beautiful lesson too, that advisers like Spock and Mattis are not in the big seat on the bridge, and sometimes their advice is not pure.

I’d be willing to bet a paycheck swap that President Trump hasn’t even seen Star Trek, or know what Star Trek is without an advisor whispering in his ear.
Many truths are universal across time and space. One of them is, that you can’t save everybody. Another is, often you have to let the other people kill themselves and die, in order to save your own.

Mudslimes reproduce not like rabbits but like gerbils and hamsters! Hamsters and gerbils were sitting on the front row of the Reproduction 101 class taking copious notes. Rabbits were sitting in the back of the room passing notes and shooting spit wads.

Hopefully (and apparently) PDJT understands better than most that humanitarian entanglements within that culture is a losing proposition with innumerable tribes and alliances and most dangerously to outside parties, in constant flux as to their agendas, operators, and alliances.

It’s a fool’s errand (aka George Jr. and the Zero) and beyond enforcing America First interests (as a SpecOps strike force calling in air/sea strikes is being prepped to do), our men have no fucking business there, and the tribes can go back to their wars older than the Son whose birth we are celebrating.

If the islamics ever achieved their world caliphate they might have 30 minutes or so of peace as they congratulate each other; then they’d start back to killing each other.

It must be remembered that Arab tribalism, blood feuds, and clan wars predate Islam. Islam, the religious cult, was created mainly to have a belief system which said “normal” Arab tribalist behavior was acceptable when both Judaism and Christianity were saying “you’re doing it wrong”.

The same dynamic exists in “Latino” culture mainly due to a combination of

    1. The fact that Spanish and Portuguese culture, originally derived from the aggressive and warlike Carthaginians, was later (and still is) even more strongly based on Islam, because the Iberian peninsula was controlled and dominated by a Muslim caliphate from the late 7th to the late 15th Centuries A.D.; and

    2. The “native” cultures of Central and South America (Inca, Maya, Aztec, etc.) were themselves tribalist and warlike, and had been engaged in largely pointless internecine warfare for centuries before Europeans arrived, going back to the early Olmecs.

Incidentally, all of the above are superstitious, primitivist, male-dominated, highly misogynist, and will instinctively kill over what they define as “honor”. Especially if the most convenient victim is female, hence “honor killing”.

Considering that Catholicism has had little or no effect on the murderous nature of Latino culture, it may just be that any Islamic-based culture is fundamentally savage, and essentially unsalvageable.

Catholicism grew out of early Christianity in the Roman Empire, and adopted a lot of “Roman” attitudes.

And even the Romans had trouble with the Arab clans, which “post-modern” historians don’t want to talk about because their dogmas demand that they paint the Romans themselves, plus the Jews and the early Christians, as the “bad guys” everywhere.

I blame T.E. Lawrence, aka Lawrence of Arabia, for a lot of the crap that goes on now. (Yes, the movie is stunning, really captures the deserts of Morocco, Jordan and parts of Spain where it was filmed.)
What a line: “I’m going to give them their freedom”.
They had the freedom of the desert, the freedom to wander eternally and slaughter each other. They were just lousy negotiators until Lawrence got Feisal to bring them together and get control of the Saudi peninsula’s oil fields.

If this region did not have an abundance of hydrocarbons under it we would not be there, we would let them alone, but history shows that 3 of the planets major religions are founded within a short drive, and all on a historic trade route. Seems like the only time they are happy is when they are slitting their neighbors throats.
Our departure will not settle anything,
The irony comes from the fact that an over 50 year old Tv show still is affecting the collective consciousness, and molding our society.
I think G Roddenberry would approve of this.

    • December 23, 2018 at 12:14 pm

Our departure surely will not settle anything among them that is irrelevant to our interests. But to the degree that their internal warring turns toward those interests -and that includes the weaponizing of those hydrocarbons- that’s what our Air Force and Navy are for.

Nothing ironic about the parallel of the teevee show to reality and the former did not “affect” the latter but rather was an effect of it.

And nothing has or will change…50 years? Pfft. Try 500 or 5000. Klingons will be Kilingons whether on Praxis or in the ME.

Zed asked “What is government good for? Absolutely nothing!” And, as it functions these days, he’s not far wrong. But Jefferson would likely tell him that governments ARE good for something. One of Jefferson’s “self-evident” truths was that governments exist to protect (secure) the rights of men. Governments do have a purpose. As do nations.

Found it, not fraud but NBC News said he has a “questionable news past”. Basically linked sites with some clickbait headlines trying to get some buzz.

The fundraising page doesn’t mention Kolfage’s most recent business venture, a Facebook page titled Right Wing News and a ring of affiliate sites that frequently trafficked in conspiracy theories. In October, Right Wing News was pulled down by Facebook in a sweep of more than 559 pages that the company said were “using fake accounts… to drive traffic to their websites” or “were ad farms using Facebook to mislead people into thinking that they were forums for legitimate political debate.”

Kolfage also ran Right Wing News’ shuttered affiliate sites including VeteranAF and FreedomDaily, which pushed false conspiracy theories, like ones claiming Hillary Clinton was secretly hiding deadly illnesses and fake voter fraud stories days before the 2016 election.

Coughing-fit Hillary who fainted at a 2016 9/11 ceremony and claimed pneumonia, who fainted in 2012 and got a concussion, who since losing the election keeps breaking bones and failed at hiding a large back brace, couldn’t possibly be hiding an illness and suggesting she could have been was a false conspiracy theory, according to NBC. Which says Brian Kolfage has a “questionable news past”. Got it.

She stayed for a bit more than 16 years at the house until she left us all. It was the mellowest sweetest cat ever, she would follow me around and lie on my feet, And she was the queen of the neighborhood. She defeated all cats until she retired from that. Dogs walked around her after the first time they met her. She used to bring me gifts that I suppose she thought that I needed to eat to survive. The best cat ever, I say.
