And what jurisdiction – Constitutionally speaking – do the feds have to ban firearm possession by a felon? Maybe buying a firearm across state lines (entailing the felon actually having it shipped across state lines, NOT simply buying one in a local store that came from elsewhere). Maybe he was on federal land? The feds have way too many laws on their books that aren’t supposed to reside at that level.

As for the Mexican Army personnel jacking up our troops, some combination of f–ked up ROEs and/or extreme patience and courage by our troops explain this occurrence. Mexican Army acting as an adjunct to cartel shipment efforts should surprise no one, and I think an adjustment in ROEs on the border is long overdue–basically, if uniformed 16-17 year old soldiers step onto our soil with H&K G-3 rifles, expect them to be returned in a body bag. Rumpkins with AK-47s or M1 Carbines get strafed off if they pose a threat to U.S. or local personnel. If Mexico and the cartels want a war, things will go poorly quickly for the other side. The border has been a clusterf–k since the days of Pancho Villa. It is time to re-regulate matters in that vicinity.
For decades now, when the proggies call for more “gun control”, the NRA and others have pointed out we need enforcing of current law. This included frequently noting how local prosecutors won’t involve Federal prosecutors to send away felons with guns on federal charges. I have long supported that.

And what jurisdiction – Constitutionally speaking – do the feds have to ban firearm possession by a felon? Maybe buying a firearm across state lines (entailing the felon actually having it shipped across state lines, NOT simply buying one in a local store that came from elsewhere). Maybe he was on federal land? The feds have way too many laws on their books that aren’t supposed to reside at that level.

I’ve seen groups who do a proper job, they keep watch at the border and call in a report to Border Patrol with the info needed to round up the illegal crossers.
Overnight I saw footage of these yahoos with their official-looking fake badges, telling groups of illegals they were Border Patrol, and forcibly detaining the groups. What’s the difference between that and pulling over a truckload of brown-skinned people on a freeway they think are suspicious?
If I’m hiking with my family along a wilderness trail, and some random guys suddenly pop up with shiny badges saying they’re taking us into custody and demanding we surrender, I would likely risk those poor benighted fools bleeding out before help could arrive rather than hope they really aren’t going to hurt us. And hey, it’s Earth Day, support the original all-natural recycling and composting methods.

That would be illegal, and therefore well within the duties of a citizen to detain them until they can be adjudicated. (I admit I could be wrong on the facts, here. But, while the ACLU tweeted that they were ‘kidnappers’, it doesn’t appear he has been charged with any version of “illegal detention”.)
Oh, and that “felon” bit? I find it interesting (in the sense of “really bad journalism”) that the Reuters article talks about him being arrested, but they never mention a conviction. You would think that – given the charge for which he was arrested – they would tell you precisely what he was actually convicted of.
