I recall reading some time ago that the British conquered Ireland essentially to force the Irish to stop raiding them. If true, that makes having a lot of soldiers in Ireland a lot more reasonable, but I am by no means knowledgeable in that particular segment of history, so take it with a grain of salt.

The names (in English, I don’t know about other languages) for human skin colors and for other things are only occasionally the same. I got into trouble in first grade for insisting that I was between peach and salmon, white was the color of my paper. Yes, I know there’s now a box of “skin color” Crayons. Or was.
I recall being taught that, as far as light and the color spectrum are concerned, ‘black’ is the absence of all colors and ‘white’ is the presence of all colors.
And in cinema, good guys wear white and bad guys wear black. I no longer pay much attention, but I bet our pop culture is chock full of things the leftists don’t understand. Gun and boxing/fighting terminology fills our lexicon. The fools.

I knew a guy in boot camp whose skin was almost clear, an extreme form of albinism. He was pink. A light exposure to sun made him a bright pink. How he convinced a recruiter to sign him up, I don’t know (maybe he was drafted and chose the Marines.) After months in boot camp, Honorable Discharge, physically incapable of serving.
Interestingly, to a photographic light meter Caucasoid and Negroid skin tones register identically for setting exposure levels. Hence, whenever a form asks for “Race,” I always respond “Human.” “Caucasoid,” “Mongoloid,” and Negroid” are ethnicities – not races . . .

I’m not sure that “absence” and “presence” is quite correct. Black absorbs all the colors of the spectrum and white reflects all of the colors of the spectrum. It always kind of amused me that an orange absorbs all of the colors except that part of the spectrum that would make up orange. In a way, an Orange is anything but orange since that is the color that the fruit rejects. Of course, that’s just me putting my own weird spin on things.
Right. People think that green is the color of growing things. What’s actually going on is that plants accept as useful energy all the wavelengths EXCEPT green, which they reject!

Always tried to follow that rule. Which is why I thrived in the pawn business which generated commerce and loyalty with all colors, and all characters…a high percentage of which looked a lot like me,some good some bad.

The names (in English, I don’t know about other languages) for human skin colors and for other things are only occasionally the same. I got into trouble in first grade for insisting that I was between peach and salmon, white was the color of my paper. Yes, I know there’s now a box of “skin color” Crayons. Or was.
I recall being taught that, as far as light and the color spectrum are concerned, ‘black’ is the absence of all colors and ‘white’ is the presence of all colors.
Jus’ sayin’…
And in cinema, good guys wear white and bad guys wear black. I no longer pay much attention, but I bet our pop culture is chock full of things the leftists don’t understand. Gun and boxing/fighting terminology fills our lexicon. The fools.

I knew a guy in boot camp whose skin was almost clear, an extreme form of albinism. He was pink. A light exposure to sun made him a bright pink. How he convinced a recruiter to sign him up, I don’t know (maybe he was drafted and chose the Marines.) After months in boot camp, Honorable Discharge, physically incapable of serving.
There’s always the submarine service!
Interestingly, to a photographic light meter Caucasoid and Negroid skin tones register identically for setting exposure levels. Hence, whenever a form asks for “Race,” I always respond “Human.” “Caucasoid,” “Mongoloid,” and Negroid” are ethnicities – not races . . .

One of my pet peeves: there is only one sapient race on this planet — Human.
Others include: (1) Pronouns have gender, of which there are three (Masculine, Feminine, Neuter); people have sex, of which there are two (Male, Female).
(2) People are referred to as “Who,” not “That.”
(3) Individual Humans are referred to as He/His or She/Hers — never as They/Their.
There are many more. I truly detest the ongoing bastardization and bowdlerizing of the world’s most precise language.
There was an episode of the old “Invaders” series where one of the aliens is masquerading as a Black politician, and one of his aids suspects something isn’t right because his palms are black, not pink. When the alien confronts him, and asks him if he is truly loyal to his race, the man answers, “Negro? Or Human?”

I’m not sure that “absence” and “presence” is quite correct. Black absorbs all the colors of the spectrum and white reflects all of the colors of the spectrum. It always kind of amused me that an orange absorbs all of the colors except that part of the spectrum that would make up orange. In a way, an Orange is anything but orange since that is the color that the fruit rejects. Of course, that’s just me putting my own weird spin on things.
Right. People think that green is the color of growing things. What’s actually going on is that plants accept as useful energy all the wavelengths EXCEPT green, which they reject!

Our Son came down to stay for several days when My Husband was in the ER for 2 days with an 8m kidney stone. During that time things were getting strange in some areas. I freaked him out a bit when I stated their souls were forfeit, their houses damned, may their seed never find purchase, wither and die. They are abandoned by the Lord God and the Gates are forever closed to them. He said Mom, you just cursed them for all time. Sure did Son.
