A deep, perceptive, sense of humor that intrinsically and accurately evaluates the demise of Baldy as a significant improvement in the human condition while realizing evil continues.
The thought of President Trump and Skye living permanently rent-free in Liz Cheney’s head has an almost Zen-like sense of beauty worthy of endless contemplation.
And Skye boring into this bitch’s brain is another of CM’s brilliant aphorisms for the D’s as a party; as the singular fixation that dominates any brain matter they may collectively share, has been nothing but Trump and Trumpism for more than six years, causing their own self-destruction as they put all their focus on killing him/us. It has injured them and made them totally vulnerable. And very dangerous.
Walked that path with you. Fortunately we also had an older son to assist with overwatch.
One benefit was that whenever i showed up at a restaurant with my wife and daughters, hour plus wait times were magically shortened to under 15 minutes, and we usually ended up at one of the better, centrally located, tables. I never did figure out how or why that happened.
It’s a well-worn path; wife and I trod it with our daughters beginning when we ourselves were teens. But even then that instinct to protect could alter the truth as I told it to them, not lying so much as extending their innocence.
We didn’t have the werewithal to eat out much back then, but I do recall expedited and extra good service when we did go out as a family. But, and this is a big but, even then that instinct steered us (with a little guidance to the hostess) away from center tables and to the back corners and walls where I could watch the door. Always watch the door in restaurants etc. and always ID an escape path as you run your situational awareness background program.

Since her head is basically empty, there is plenty of room for them.
Seems that Jeff and Sam are comparing different talleys. Thing 1and Thing 2 are on different pages from Baldy. Jeff is all good. Sam has to deal with her own ghosts and fantasies. Sam didn’t see or hear anything. Parables are intentionally vague. Kiko doesn’t have a clue about the real world. I hope that Jack walked her to the door. Both of her or them. Jack got an introduction to the DD.
If Jack finds out (or already knows) about tonight’s activities, he’s gotta be running his original Dad talk with Zed regarding Kiko through his mind in a whole new light.
Jeff and Jo followed the “Prime Directive” and did nothing wrong. Zed did what had to be done without collaboration of the chrome people. Thing 1 and Thing 2 got outed and have to get a beer someplace else. Jeff doesn’t even suspect what might have happened and certainly didn’t see anything. Even if “someone” blabs, Zed has a government gun for government work. So…….

I tend to enjoy Sarah’s longhand but then convert it to a TL;DR synopsis, or at least my interpretation of it.
Ironically in this case we discussed the premise here some time ago, as to reality and perception and how the former and latter blend or are blended. And Ms. Hoyt adds the premise that many of us the inhabitants of the world, don’t really even exist let alone our acceptance or denial of the reality of what is fed to us, or for that matter what we feed to ourselves.
And she also confirmed what we said then, that as malleable and ephemeral as our version of reality may be, having no real basis or proof, actual facts are the real real that doesn’t change and doesn’t give a damn if we are around or not…when that tree in the forest falls, the sound is made regardless if it is heard. Facts is facts, and that’s a fact, Jack.
And she is right about something else I think…this shit is about to get real, even if it heretofore has not been, and that’s a fact.
He’s a babe in the woods dealing with some powerful urges, gotta be a whirlwind of confusion inside that blonde mop head. I’ll give him a pass and watch his actions and not just his words. He does however, need to keep that “wandering eye” up on the hill and off of sister Mari, if not out of love then out of self-preservation…that will say a lot about his smarts.

Speech bubble confusion. You got us all used to the color coding and then gave Jeff and Jack a shared color/style.

Huh. I thought Jeff said that. Often it’s hard to tell.

Sam is starting to get her head around the “new normal” of Zed having to do what he needs to do (up to and including….) to protect the (extended) family that he loves.
It’s a drastic step, one that hasn’t been practiced in generations. But hopefully this generation will get up to speed right quick. It’ll need to in order to survive to a next generation.
Sam has intellectually known who Zed was and what he was capable of. There was even a miscarriage, to reinforce the point.
Tonight she gets to experience emotionally first hand the Major Zed Owens that Naomi knew, Biblically and otherwise: “I served under Major Owens in a variety of positions..:.”
I doubt that Naomi will ever be as intimidating to Sam as she once was, and I bet that this deepens the bond of twin sisters of different mothers in a way few events could. Regardless of genetic test results it will deepen the bonds of family regarding Mia as well.

Panels 2 and 4 are instant classics.
Jeff has a sense of humah.

The clapping of one hand.

*shakes head* Skye don’t be too hard on her. She’s not going to be getting any grift anymore. Though maybe an audit might be fun to watch…
As with Biden, Cheney the Lesser, and Fetterman, et al — never feel sorry for them and their ilk. They are the Enemy and want to destroy you/us.
I don’t feel sorry for any of them. They cast their honor away ages ago. It’s more of by their own hands they brought about their downfalls.
Off topic, have we ever seen Airman Flanagan?
The question is, was Jeff giving Kiko the straight story or shielding her from the harsh facts?
I think that is Sam.
Bren,
Very perceptive.
You are, ah, experienced in such matters?
Regardless of its length or other specifics, the “rail ride” was no doubt a violently uncomfortable.trip to a miserable destination.
2 daughters raised while running a game store.
I hope the rail ride included the asphalt and pillow-stuffing body suit.

Kiko has to set her sights higher and quit fooling around with that halfwit Jack. She may be about 35 cents short, but Jack is a total zero.

Parables are intentionally vague.
Yours is easily one of the wisest and most profound posts ever on DBD. And this is a tough crowd, so that truly says a lot.
If Jack finds out (or already knows) about tonight’s activities, he’s gotta be running his original Dad talk with Zed regarding Kiko through his mind in a whole new light.
Bren,
In Naval Aviation we refer to that as “getting your gyros caged.” It’s like an attitude adjustment on steroids.
But you definitely know which way is UP!
Jeff and Jo followed the “Prime Directive” and did nothing wrong. Zed did what had to be done without collaboration of the chrome people. “Prime Directive” or Azimov’s First Law of Robotics? …and have Jo and Jeff been programmed to either?
Was that really Zed that pulled the trigger on ‘baldy’ and was it a fatal shot? Jeff has been rather busy of late…

Glad other folks have discovered Sarah Hoyt. And if you’ve not read her books, do so. Excellent writer/excellent stories.

@Shonkin, I haven’t seen Jack do anything actually wrong? A little clueless maybe but that will change sooner than later…
And she doesn’t want him sneaking down the hill!

Or maybe she does until she finds him in the arms of Mari…

Wrong? Other than a wandering eye, no. But he has the IQ of a fencepost.

Though it’s a lot harder to find these days. Nowadays, it’s acceptable to substitute superglue and packing peanuts.
And yeah — mass quantities of superglue BURNS.
