If he’s stuck on revolvers, may I suggest a Ruger Classic Redhawk in .45acp/.45colt. In that pistol, with decent brass, .45colt can be loaded hotter than .44mag , and with a lower chamber pressure.

In one of our early (1995) Texas concealed handgun classes I had a cowboy (real deal) ask if he could take the practical with his single-action revolver. There was no rule against it.
He shot faster than those with semiautos, and reloaded faster than those with DA revolvers. After 50 rounds at three, seven and 15 yards he had two “flyers” in the 9-ring. He KNEW that gun.
If it ain’t broke; don’t fix it.

I would love to have a video of him shooting the cap and ball revolver from the class. I have a Navy Arms and I cannot conceive of how he could out reload a semi auto pistol. I’d like to pick up some reloading tips from him!
I doubt Jerry Miculek could out-reload a semi using a cap and ball revolver.
A cartridge SA ? I wouldn’t take that bet.
My .357 Blackhawk came with a 9mm cylinder and you couls swap them fairly fast with a little practice.
The range I used in the 80’s wasn’t really into IPSC/PPC, we practiced the matches for the National military matches mostly.
One time however, we had a visitor from Calgary who was heavily into IPSC and was determined to ‘show us how it’s done’.
I remember he had a .38 Super ‘race gun’ with a belt full of magazines and didn’t really have much nice to say about anyone else’s choices.
He got under my skin just a little bit.
One scenario started with you as a bank manager sitting at a desk with your weapon tucked under some papers in an in-box, three targets were at very close range in front of you, one had apparently been turned down for a loan and came back with ‘friends’, armed.
He went first and ran through two magazines.
I was one of the last ones and used the Blackhawk.
Held the trigger back and thumb-cocked six rounds in less than three seconds, then stopped, obviously.
All X’s, at that range I could have touched them with a 7ish” barrel.
When the dust settled and his ‘box’ gave the numbers, between the length of time used to hit each target ‘at least’ twice, hits and more importantly power factor (I was using 158gr JHP’s at just under warp speed), I’d beaten his score by just enough he couldn’t complain 🙂
He grumbled instead “what would you have done if there were four of them ?”
I just shrugged and answered “head shots”

It’s great that none of our gun people on this never said the Long Colt expression which is wrong. It’s also assuring most identified the cap and ball. The problem with that one is a lot of replica manufactures go out of their way to make sure their product isn’t mistaken for an original. A lot of the replicas are historically wrong but they do look and operate nicely. It almost looked like it has cylinder flutes which would have made it the police model. I think it’s reflections from the nickel plating.
Chris, it would be a blessing to me if you had the young ladies correct their vocabulary. They are home schooled. The girls shouldn’t sound like trailer trash on a Saturday night on closing. Besides, I live in Texas and the folks might have heavy accents but their annunciations are impeccable.

I was just talking to a gun collector friend about deer hunting as he is an old hunting buddy way up in the frozen tundra. He is into cowboy shooting and wanted a heavy brush load also. I remember some of those hunts. Interesting that he just got a Ruger Single Action for 300-grain bullets. It is of course, for .45 Long Colt. I should get one to go with the old shotgun.
Wisconsin Gave Darrell Brooks, the fellow who drove into the Waukesha Christmas Parade last year, the maximum sentences they could, which don’t include Death. But as I was telling someone else, they can always give ‘im the needle anyway…

I ran into a guy last summer who’s car gun was a repro Griswald & Gunnison. Basically, a .44 cal Confederate copy of the 1858 Navy.
He was shocked I recognized it, but that’s mainly because I have one of my own.
