    Priceless!

I thought only Naomi could push Sam’s buttons like that.

Then again, my Irish ancestors from County Clare were not welcome in polite society when they arrived. Of course the fact that my great great uncle is somewhat of an infamous legend with the Boston Police Department probably did not help.

When, the Irish came enmasse, they weren’t welcomed. I find nothing like that when an Irish ancestor married into our family circa 1750.

I suspect that Mr. McShane, Zed, and Ian have already held at least one meeting of the clans agreeing that they will not stop fighting for freedom (among other things) until at least three days after they are dead.

I wonder if Ian’s grandfather was a Screaming Eagle with Wade?

One Great Grandfather was snatched off the road in Ireland about the age of 10 and tossed on a British ship around 1850. He was never allowed off the ship when it was in a port. During the Civil War, the ship was near enough to land for him to jump ship and he worked his way West. He worked on the Rail Road laying track and was paid $1.00 a day. He became a citizen in 1870.

My Irish ancestors repeatedly left their home town back in the old country. But then, later, they’d come back and run the British invaders off.

Apparently happened repeatedly over the years.

Shame about Sam’s dad not coming back. Sometimes wild geese be that way.

My ancestry on that side was West Country English, not Irish. (People keep thinking the family name is German; it isn’t, it’s old Saxon.)

My first ancestor got here about the time of Queen Anne’s War. He was in the “transportation” business in the Old Country.

To be exact, he was a horse thief.

Over here, he ran a stable. And there and here, he treated horses a lot better than nine-tenths of their owners did.

Rumour has it the original family crest was a sheep and a pair of handcuffs…
Which is odd, seeing that while the family name is usuaklly taken for Scots or Irish and we did end up here via that route, it’s really an ancient Hebrew name 😉

That’s the Fair Tax originally introduced by John Linder years ago. Was supported by then talk show host Neil Boortz. A national consumption tax. There are two books by him on Amazon called “The Fair Tax.” Personally I would like to see it come to pass. Have my doubts that it will though. Read up on it. https://fairtax.org/

I used to be a Fair Tax advocate, but decided that leaving the Feds with any kind of handle on the administration of taxes was just asking for more regulations.
The best scheme that I can dig up is a straight up retail sales tax coupled with a flat tax rebate issued to every man woman and child who is a legal resident.
This leaves little room for corruption by way of Washington (but you know they’ll try) and charges the illegal occupiers of the country a premium for being here sucking up our wealth.
And if the Californicators want to compensate the illegals for the federal tax it’s on their dime.

Read all the BS schemes over the years; call them this or that, they all invariably revolve around sellers of goods and services being conscripted as federal tax collectors. Fuck that! As I said above we have enough regs and laws and paperwork without taking on such a thankless and dangerous chore, not to mention creating criminals out of wholecloth (gov is good at that) and the biggest black market ever seen.

It’s really so simple. Too simple for gov of course…

A flat tax i just that, a percentage of ALL INCOME not outgo, assessed the same flat amount for every dollar, millionaires to ditch diggers, you make a million bucks this year your tax is 100K; make 20,000 and it’s 2K. No exemptions for anything or anybody for any reason, including religious exemptions which created the sickeningly wealthy “preachers” and elaborate edifices of churches, which have not a damn thing to do with God’s Word.

In fact; let’s maintain that religious connection and take up the Bible’s term of “tithe” meaning simply a tenth. That was meant to encourage congregants to contribute ten percent of their take-home pay to their church, but before that, the government gets their ten percent, and with zero exemptions that ten percent will run this country in a decent if rolled back manner as it should be. And I can’t imagine anybody not being willing to contribute ten percent of the earnings from the opportunity to earn that is uniquely provided by living in what is still, so far, the best and greatest place on earth…if everybody wants to be here, the ones that are let in better be ready and willing to PAY their fair share, not GET their share of free shit. Problem solved.

Yeah, ain’t gonna happen. Been saying and writing those same words for 40 years, and even when Ronnie chimed in, not a damn thing happened.

It’s probably just something to see how the media spins it, in hopes the left steals it and implements it later.

Up here some years ago, we had a Conservative leader, an economist by trade, going into an election who proposed a flat tax of 17% but with the first $30,000 of total family income, per person, being tax free instead of the roughly $7,000 personal exemption per at the time and there would be no other exemptions after that for any other reason. The tax code would be pretty much reduced to one page.

The spin from the media and the left was, of course, incredible.

At the time, the lowest tax rate on the first $10,000 or so of income was 16%. the liebral PM of the day immediately reduced that to 15.5% saying he was cutting taxes instead of raising them and the sheep bought it.
What wasn’t mentioned, of course, was that not paying taxes on the first $30,000 then 17% on everything after that was a helluva lot less than the first $7,000 being exempt then the next $10,000 or so after that taxed at 15.5% and then going up in steps until you hit a 29% tax rate at roughly $70,000 income.
What also wasn’t mentioned was that the deductions you could claim were no longer 16%, they were 15.5% and as a consequence, the majority of people ended up paying more overall than they had before their taxes were ‘cut’.
The election, with the predictable result of course, happened before tax time rolled around and people could see how they’d been taken in…again.
What the media conveniently left out of their coverage was that the ‘rich’ wouldn’t have had access to all of their tax shelters and other deductions only the wealthy could afford and would have had to pay 17% on ALL of their income from all sources, in effect ‘taxing the rich’ while giving those with lower incomes a very large tax break, a two person household could have made $60,000 before paying a cent of federal tax instead of the roughly $4 or 5 thousand they would have paid on that amount after the current deductions were taken.

socialism is a tax on people who can’t do basic math.

As best we can tell, my forefathers arrived c. 1680 in the Virginia Colony and being of Irish Catholic backgreound already had an uneven view of the Lobsterbacks. By the 1720s they were fit to be listed in Colony records as tax payers, so they owned land. My 2nd-Great Grandpa was a rounder–fathered 18 surviving kids and lived from 1810-1891. Fought in the 2nd Texas Cavalry during the War of Northern Aggression and got paroled in mid-1865. He loaded his 2nd wife and some number of the kids and came west, arriving by oxcart in San Bernardino, CA. 3 more days in the cart, it could have been Newport Beach–FMTT. My great grandfather (For whom I am named) was born here in 1870, and we have been here ever since.

In my own experience, red-haired lasses are like high fast-balls and good whiskey–can’t say ‘No’ to them, and can’t do ^%&$ with them after saying ‘Yes’. I am spectator status for all three entities these days.

Aye. The human race is a grand lot. And the Irish and Magyar appear to be the best of the lot.
    (Let the fights begin.)
Neither the Irish nor the Magyar were considered white for the longest time. Somebody just needed more people to intensely dislike, or worse.

We are all human. We must deal with it.
And I have often said that we all must believe that our own race is the bestest ever. (Then that we are all the human race is noted. We have a gift of the present. Use it.

Central Banks use that they create money from nothing. Now that isn’t being a bestest human to all other humans. In time they want to buy it all and own it all.

Interesting. I am of Irish and Magyar ancestry, along with a smattering of most of Central and Eastern Europe thanks to Roman slave traders and Irish who insisted on shooting at tax collectors, and MISSING!(They liked strong drink.) We’ve been running from the Crowned Heads since the Plantagenets. My Dad’s side wound up in Quebec just in time for that little set-to between Wolfe and Montcalm. After being on another losing side, the family scattered south. Some as far as Louisiana (There the name is spelled “Breaux”). My Grand-dads family settled in western New England, and eventually met my Grandmother’s family, the Flemings, @1920. She and her sisters came over from Dublin via Ellis Island. My Mom’s family is mostly from Eastern Hungary, although the Immigration paperwork says Austria. Things were kind of fluid in 1917. My Mom’s family came over from Alsace in the 1700s, and even managed to add some Mohawk to the gene pool.

      Family Trees are marvelous structures!

i knew that there must have been a reason beyond the excellent comments that I liked you. The Irish came over after that dust up at the River Boyne in 1690 after a stop off in hiding in England. They left the land behind. The Magyar left around 1900 as the family saw storm clouds on the horizons and wanted to spread the family around. There are inventors, farmers, university professors for centuries in the two groups. 800+ years in one area. I am sure there were the transportation specialist, as someone said of his ancestors, in the bunch. As Magyar and Irish, there are warriors in the group as far back as they exist going back to the Emerald Isle and into the steppes of Eurasia. The Magyar were a combined tribe and added good people as the tribe moved and after it took the Carpathian plain. It has one major enemy for over a thousand years that it still could deal with when not at war with them. They did have to be kicked out of part of the county at least once. Less than 2% decided to join the group as they left. Rumor has it that one of the French Canadians let in way back was part Indian. But who knows. I still say that blonde hair, fair skin, and blue eyes makes a funny looking black.

The Human Race. It all started out with a Big Bang, and sentient beings have been trying to figure out what God created ever since.

The Spanish girls had the duennas, though they were Catholic. Then there was the Haitian and Catholic beauty that came to my class in 3rd through 6th grade. French and Black do mix well. My sister saw her last when she helped boost her to get out a bathroom window to get out of the club in Port au Prince as Baby Doc, the dictator, son of the previous dictator Papa Doc, was going to take her against her will when they left. The fun part is that unless you want to say that humans evolved in different places at different times and therefore the ‘races’ have different strengths, weaknesses, abilities and affinities; you have to go with the current theory that everyone evolved from one group in one area in Africa and spread out acriss the planet, thereby making us technically all ‘black’. It’s a matter of degree, but there’s no ‘reparations money’ to be made from that. I’m still waiting for my cheque from the Egyptians for building the pyramids, the one from the British for shipping my crofter ancestors out, and another one from the African tribe that sold a distant ancestor from another tribe into slavery. That last one has a stronger case for ‘reparations’ than anyone buying the product they were selling.
