“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

Here’s hoping it’s a long time before any of the Owens clan has to meet the last item on that list, although I think Jack did check that box, most gallantly.

Bravo, Sam, on number 4. Let’s just hope it’s Lazarus Long, and not ‘Farnham’s Freehold’.

We must fix the legal system to make marriage a attractive proposition to the American Male. If a man gets married he throws the dice. According to the statistics I’ve read, a man has a 1 in 5 chance that his marriage will be successful. If it isn’t then he will have a far worse outcome than the female.

To make marriage attractive to the American Male we must also make marriage attractive to the American Female, otherwise she’ll never marry him in the first place. Here’s a couple numbers for you:

The first number is $37k/yr. That’s how much an unmarried mother of two can get, cash equivalent, from the state. But only if she’s unmarried and that doesn’t include any child support that we’ll ignore for the moment. Let’s say a modest man wants to spend $10k/yr on himself. Well then he needs to earn $47k/yr to be a potential replacement, right? Nope, see that $37k/yr is tax-free, so he needs to out-earn after taxes which means he really needs to earn $60k/yr or more. So what percentage of men earn $60k/yr or more? Less than 1/3rd.

So that’s why Bureaugamy (Marriage to the State), is keeping actual marriages from happening and causing a lot of kids to be raised in single-mother households. And we all know how well kids raised by single-mothers turn out….

So how do you fix this? How to dismantle the welfare state so that men are an actual alternative to government? Well then the second number comes into play: 56%. Women control 56% of suffrage. The adult population is 52% and change female, and the other just over 3% difference comes from disenfranchised felons. So there is no way to end the welfare state, nor the anti-male divorce laws, without ending women’s suffrage. And considering that ending women’s suffrage would not only destroy the Democrat party but also result in ending tons of government jobs both directly (welfare offices and the like) and indirectly (shrinking of government once men control suffrage), they’re not going to let that happen so there is no chance of an amendment repealing the 19th.

That’s why the only solution within our control is revolution. Alternatives are patriarchal religious resurgence or extra-terrestrial invasion, but neither have good odds of occurrence.

    Chris+muir,

    The ‘essential’ Heinlein Three are
“Starship Troopers” (read the book, the movies suck)
“The Moon is a Harsh Mistress”
“Stranger In A Strange Land”, uncut version.

“The Notebooks of Lazarus Long” are very good, and a good starting point.

Thinking Muir’s exposure to Heinlein is like mine, limited to the excellent choices and quotes from the gallery right here, all the editing and cherry-picking already done. Thank y’all!

Didn’t sing, but man could he herd them sheep! And far from annoying him, he LIKED it! Especially that last part…”That’ll do Pig…that’ll do.”

None more memorable, or more true, than this…

“Ignorance is curable. Stupid is forever.”

Which Larry eventually admitted, was the source of his brilliant “Cain’t fix stupid.” Smarter and more well-read than those other posers like Foxworthy.

For a little lighter Heinlein reading, I would suggest ‘Have Spacesuit Will Travel’, written in 1958 for teenage boys.

For me, Heinlein’s best quote and one I repeat far too frequently, is:

“Stupidity cannot be cured. Stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death. There is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity.”
    –Robert Heinlein
