At a guess, Dominas are genetically engineered to produce pheromones which cause men to experience an extreme version of the normal female reaction to male pheromones. That is, they make the male docile and compliant whether he wants to be or not.
And no, just because the man can’t “smell” it doesn’t mean he won’t be affected by it.

However, it atrophies and disappears, leaving the olfactory epithelium as the only receptor. No pheromonal substance has ever been demonstrated to directly influence human behavior.
Perhaps most importantly, no matter how stunning the woman or how powerful her pheromones, the set of men who would take a hard pass, recognizing that it is not worth putting up with her “stuff,” is many times larger than the set of men who would fall for the trap.

Pheromones work until someone has a gas mask or a SCUBA tank.
Something strong smelling on the upper lip, like Vicks™ Vaporub™, might also block them.
Properly engineered, they could also work by absorption through the skin or eyeball.
