I used to travel constantly on sales calls. Got so sick of Clinton News Network. Then I retired, 9-11 happened, TSA was born, and I vowed never to fly again unless it absolutely could not be helped. Made two trips in the past 25 years — son’s wedding in Hawaii (couldn’t drive it) and uncle’s funeral in Tampa (couldn’t drive it in time). Meanwhile, I’m hearing that CNN in airports is now dead? You’re welcome!

I carried my phone and tuned to the FOX website or LUCIANNE.COM. Haven’t watched CNN except under duress for over 20 years.

CNN quit paying airports to show their propaganda during the covid debacle and they never returned.

They’d confiscate it at the security check when nobody knew what it was but sitting in the lounge trying codes until you found the right one would be a peaceful way to pass the time waiting…assuming they were using big screens with tuners and not just direct feed monitors…they always find a way to take the fun out of everything 🙁

Unlike a lot of people, I think we should go back to the Moon. To stay.

Why build “space stations” in low Earth orbit when nature supplied us with one a quarter-million miles out, with all the necessary raw materials to build whatever we need right there, on site?

Launching a Mars mission, or any other deep space op, will be a lot easier when assembling the bits in orbit starts with lofting them against only one-sixth standard G. Plus, no atmospheric friction or comm signal attenuation to fool with.

Heinlein had it right. Build the Freeport of the Solar System right there.

It’s time to make some dreams come true.

Pulling back after getting there was/is ridiculous.

Letting those resources just sit there is criminal.

You’re right. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and it’s been ignored too long. That book is a great blueprint for how to set it up (technology wise, not politically)

The problem with the moon is that pesky “no atmosphere” thing. I wouldn’t plan on staying long in someplace I had to take my own air.

Water has been proven to exist on the moon, that’s a lot of oxygen, plus hydrogen for fuel, and while solar power is useless doen here, up there it would be available in abundance to break the water down into O and H2, as well as other oxygen containing minerals…until the greenies started complaining about ‘destroying the environment’ with solar panel farms…the liebrals of course would want wind farms.

And, they’re going to keep dickin’ around. Bitch McConnell is already trying to RINOtage the Senate leadership to thwart any MAGA agenda legislation. Hopefully, our creator will send that dinosaur to a museum to be fed Chinese pablum for his remaining existence.

On my most recent excursions through four airports, Gerald R. Ford (Grand Rapids, MI), La Guardia, Logan, and Detroit Metro, I didn’t even notice any television screens, aside from those used to show which flights were at which gates. Most people had a phone or tablet.

The airport CNN screen has apparently gone the way of the pay phone.

The difference is that I miss pay phones.

In disasters and etc., hardline phones powered by 64V DC still worked even when cell towers were down, as long as the lines were still connected. Never underestimate the usefulness of a comm system that works when SHTF.

And always carry a roll of quarters. 😉

I always kept one ‘landline’ phone for just that reason, but the company came by a few years ago and put in a ‘7 day batteyr pack’ then shut down the original lines. First power failure…no phone. Second power failure after replacing the box…no phone. Such is ‘green technology’…it doesn’t use any power if it doesn’t work.

That’s why I keep a landline connected to my house. We have cells for regular use, but I have a old-fashioned plug-in phone ready to go. I Normally keep it unplugged. When we first moved in, i connected it and within 10 minutes we got the first SPAM call.
