Meanwhile, the noise causes the clientele of the flytrap cantina just across the border to grow even more prematurely old and gray as the legends about the Diablo D ranch continue to accumulate and grow.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing…

      “Ella me aulló, este demonio!!”

“She howled at me, this demon!!”

Do the Mexicans have any legends equivalent to the Irish wailing harbinger of death, the “Bean Sídhe” (Banshee)?

Zed will spread the word that ‘chupacabras’ have been spotted on the ranch and that a few head of cattle have been found, exsanguinated.
If necessary, Jo can adopt a suitable form. She’s come close already.

Considering that there are a shitton of Irish-Mexican folks from just before the US-Mex war.
Fled there to avoid slavery and indenture contracts that affected generations and some that took up arms to fight the French colonial forces there.
One I’m aware of is a combination of bane sidhe, chupacabra, and vampire/demon. Denoted by an enraged red headed widow flying at French troops . Altered to respect the church.
It could be appeased by a heroic, honorable man marrying/laying with her. And then avenging the wrongs. Saw the Glassworks in Huasco/Recife de Plata mining area.
80% Irish in that area. Lotsa redheaded Latinas, and freckles. Was a teenager’s paradise. Nearly left with a wife at 14… but that’s another story.

According to Elon, there are indeed mind-boggling sci-fi developments just around the corner that are going to change everything. Cool. But at least one thing feels fairly certain now – Heinlein’s “Crazy Years” are finally over, and good riddance to the insanity.

“The Operation is over!” message yesterday means far more than anyone but the 17 insiders know… ; )

Green with envy. The best military air demo unit in the western Hemisphere: the Blues and/or Snowbirds (look ‘em up, they’re worth it), especially at the same show!

Personal experience. Was Duty OOD (Officer of the Day) at NAS Willow Grove during their Bicentennial Open House an Air Show, 4 July 1976. We outdrew Philadelphia’s Riverfront Show. Both units performed – Snows, then Blues – as the finale. Unbeknownst to all, they had got together and made their plans, not telling anyone but the Control Tower, as they initiated.

After the Snows completed their show, they didn’t land but circled off to the side while the Blues did their opening routine and takeoff. Both groups joined up stage right and performed a formation flyby, with a fantastic fan break, after which the Snows did their landing routine (all nine birds had low fuel lights burning, but no one flamed out) and the Blues flew their great routine, must before a thunderstorm tore trough and delayed the fireworks til an hour past sunset

All in all, one of my best memories of 26 years in the Navy, and in Navy Public Affairs
