No need to repeat it. Superhero or not, Naomi will be showing pictures of and telling stories about “the Grands” to anyone who will listen.

It’s hardwired into the DNA of the X chromosome.

Granddads do it to, Grandmothers twice as much.

Quite true. I’m the grandmother of 10 and the great grandmother of 2 as of last month.

    (What’s Yiddish/Hebrew for “Grandma”? “Family/familiar” vs ” formal”)

In Yiddish, “Bubbe” is the familiar name for Grandma. Spelling varies due to transliteration of characters from the Hebrew to English alphabets.

Other variations include “Bubbie” and “Bubbeh.” (Must avoid puns at the Double D!)

The suffix -shi is often added to show affection, and the most common spelling is “Bobeshi.”

Naomi has been an Aunt to Kiko and Mari since they were little girls. Some honorifics you inherit. Others, you earn.

So the girls are half-aunts to their half-sister’s progeny, probably to be called simply auntie by it, leaving open the question of proper or preferred honorific for Granny there…?

For “Grandma” My Jewish friends have used “Mi-Mom” or Variants of Bubbie” (Bub; Bubs; Bubba; Bubbe)

For “Auntie” I’ve heard “Tante” (Tan-tah)” or formal “Tantele” (Tan-tel-ah)

My second wife has grandkids. Being that she’s Texan, the kids call her Mema and her ex is Pepa. Being the relatively new kid on the block (married in 2019) I didn’t expect the kids to call me anything other than my given name. Imagine my delight when they decided Grandpa was appropriate. Winning!!

When you’ve gone the places Naomi has, and done the things she’s done, you bless God for every day that you’re alive, to watch your progeny grow, to be a part of their life. I
