Don’t know why but that reminds me; back in 1971 when I was in the last stages of training in the Marine Corps, I just took over guard duty at a group of unoccupied quonset huts (third shift so about 1 or 2 am). Discovered one of them was unlocked, so I checked inside. There were two people sleeping on cots. Following procedure, I called the Corporal of the Guard. He said, “challenge them”. I said, “but they’re asleep” He said wake them up first. OK. I did and got their story and ID and reported it (they were both officers). Thing is I was the THIRD person to walk around those huts, and the only one that checked the doors. SMH

Quonset huts or Married Quarters…It was the 80’s, I’d just been transferred and we’d been living in a hotel for well over a week waiting for our PMQ to be painted so we could move in.
Well, not so much as ‘hotel’ as a 4th rate dirt cheap motel which is what passed for accomodation at that base. No pool, no cable, but a good view of a completely bare hill devoid of any vegetation and the equivalent of a native ‘biker bar’ across the street, roundeyes were strongly discouraged from attending.
One day I decided to drop by the address I’d been given to check on how close it was to being ready, and also to see for myself why it took two weeks to paint a 4 room 625 sq ft 2 bedroom box when I could have probably done it in an afternoon. The door was locked so I looked through a gap in the paper covering the living room window…there were mattresses and sleeping bags on the floor along with a table, microwave and comercial sized coffee maker probably taken from stores or a mess hall. Turns out the civvies in all the CE sections were using it for a break room aka ‘we don’t feel like working today’.
Unfortunately for them, I knew the Warrant Officer in charge of that section fairly well from a previous posting when we were in a Band together…and one of the MP Sgts…cushy civvy jobs like that weren’t easy to come by in the area and this was prior to the ‘woke’ movement when actions had consequences and you could be held liable for them, even ‘criminal trespassing’ which this amounted to. 🙂
Sorry “recipients”…Lefties are losing their shit because Desantis turned back a bunch of gov funded bs…, visual art, dance, music and other cultural and artistic organizations are scrambling to close unexpected budget shortfalls after Gov. Ron DeSantis wiped out state arts and culture grants. DeSantis used his veto authority to eliminate $32 million that would have gone to organizations throughout the state. Recipients expected the money would begin flowing in coming weeks.
Sometimes it ain’t so much choice as acceptance. My aunt delivered her youngest daughter in the bathroom, and didn’t even realize she was in labor until the event was underway, so to speak.

Trust me, sleeping with grandma isn’t a chore. I’ve been doing it 13 years.
