The shooting range at the school is 50 feet long by 21 feet wide, with seven ranges.
Crooks once fired from the seventh lane — the closest lane to the right wall — and hit the left wall, completely missing every target on the back wall. He missed his target by close to 20 feet, Murphy recalled.
Murphy referred to Crooks as a “comically bad shot.” Another classmate said he liked to wear hunting outfits to class and that he “couldn’t shoot at all.”
“He was a terrible shot,” the classmate said. “Our old coach was a stickler, he trained Navy marksmen, so he knew people. He knew when someone’s not the greatest person.”…
So this guy was so bad he was shooting at the flag above President Trump. But he managed the worlds luckiest shot in hitting Trumps ear but not a centimeter to the right thus killing him with skull fragments from something powerful enough that was proven to penetrate skulls. Somehow I think he had practice. Lots of practice to do that good even being rushed.
The ‘luck’ was in him not hitting, nobody and I mean NOBODY could deliberately hit as thin a target as a moving human ear from 150 yds with any sort of AR platform, the ‘group size’ at that range is a minimum of four to six inches for any sort of off-the-rack variant even with a decent optic and a highly experienced expert shot. That means the shot will fall somewhere within 2 or 3 inches of where you aimed, in any direction from point of aim, maybe. The platform simply isn’t capable of any more than that no matter what you saw on TV, the movies or Youtube.
Hitting a target the size of a human head is a completely different story, that’s a ‘snap-shot’ and we used to do it kneeling at 300 yds with a two second exposure, not a prone position with a steady aim. We were NOT aiming for the ear, which you couldn’t see anyway, but the centre of the target.
Anyone who thinks this was a ‘staged’ shot with the sniper deliberately aiming to just ‘nick’ the ear as Trump moved his head around is a complete moron who’s never fired a weapon in their life. Period. He was aiming for the centre of mass and just missed partly due to Trump’s moving his head and partly because the gods of windage and elevation smiled on him that day. probably a good case of the ‘yips’ was involved too, you might know that as ‘buck fever’.

Somehow I can’t imagine any assassin aiming at their victim’s ear. It was Gods Blessing that President Trump’s head rotated at the exact time needed for the sloppy, jerked trigger, aimed, or whatever happened to send the bullet on the path that Would have killed him if his head had not moved for that .34 second.
