I sometimes wonder if it’s a mixed blessing.
Those of us who remember Eisenhower as President were taught the difference between To, Too, and Two, and between There, Their, and They’re also remember Civics class (and not “Social Studies) and know our government is supposed to be a tool of self governance subject to defined rules and merciless review, and not an object of worship with a fascist priesthood.
Sadly, I’ve lived long enough to hear no less a person than the Speaker of the House word vomit the phrase “sacred institutions” (incidentally including herself in the priesthood) and she is 12 years older than I am.
My only consolation is that the “public schools” are slowly being dumped in favor of other approaches to education that do not teach Rousseau’s pagan Worship of the State.
Nice piece. The dark truth of it especially at the end, is as compelling of a reason for a separation from all of it and the creation of a new sovereign nation that embraces all of what made America great and will again, under the auspices of us the MAGA nation in a brand new Republic. An old new Republic really.
Mine is a short Asian fireball that shakes the Universe when she’s pissed. I proposed 17 days after meeting her on a blind date and had our 27th anniversary Last August. She is my world.
Mine was blonde and of Polish descent ( she’d joke they canceled each other out) and a tomboy. Similar volcanic temper and I was the one to have to hold her back and God have mercy on the poor sob that managed to get to the point we got to the point I let her loose because we were a pair.
Mine was a fiery Irish Catholic lass. Loved her from the time I met her when we were 9 years old.
You knew when she was “getting her Irish up” when her accent came to the forefront. I knew it for the warning it was. Too many who underestimated her found out the hard way what it meant.
I was fortunate to have her in my life until the time God called her home over 40 years ago. Thinking of her even all these years later makes me smile. And yes, I miss my Irish spitfire every day.
I met my wife 26 years ago on the 26th of this month. Thank God I stumbled across such a beauty with the most genuine personality you will ever meet. She was born in Cali Colombia and came to the United States in her thirties with her 10 year old daughter. She became a citizen in 2005, and is very patriotic, maybe more than most natural born Americans. Don’t cross her or you will certainly regret it. I’m glad to have her as a partner to go through this chaos we are facing. I sometimes feel like apologizing for our country that she has adopted as her own. Her disappointment is obvious when she watches the news. But she, and I, remain optimistic. Let’s win this next election!
Coming on 45 years now, we stayed together because neither one of us wanted the kids and now it’s out of curiosity to see who gets to collect on the others insurance 😉

May we give as good as we got –
160 years on huh? Hmm.
A ‘successful” war then?
In the year 2182,
If man has made it through,
If woman is still here too,
We have survived.
If it’s the only way to get there from here? Fuck It, let’s go.
Redheads with fine T&A have been stealing souls for years…I lost mine in 1979.
Lost mine two years earlier. She still has it.
24 years ago and going strong.
1990 for me. Unfortunately she passed in 2019. She still has my heart.
I lost heart my to the classic “little red haired girl” when I was nine, and never looked back. Finally found my red head soul mate in 1995!
Buck Fiden.

Solzhenitsyn makes me sigh and wish it were not so.
Chris,
That was brilliant. And damn’ quick.
Fuck It, It’s Off. Mine was blond, then gray. For some things, I am color blind. Shield Maiden.
Mine was a petite brunette, and I’ve held onto her for fourty years!
Zar Belk!
Current use works. Use it well.
Huh…seems many of us here are of an age. Now if we can keep it so our younguns can reach this same level…..”Aye, there’s the rub.”

When you allow a criminal Coup dÉtat, you open the floodgates…

CRA. It’s (probably) the only way.
… and that’s what we’ve got …

After 52 years, my Polish Girl left to join the silent Choir Immemorial.

Only one way to interpret that timeline…
Coming on 45 years now, we stayed together because neither one of us wanted the kids and now it’s out of curiosity to see who gets to collect on the others insurance 😉
Oldarmourer,
Based on one of your earlier comments, I thought it was because you enjoyed watching hockey games together.
Backchecking? Forechecking? No, I think it was pokechecking, yeah, that was it!
I’m the one that doesn’t care for hockey, stupid sport
I prefer Canada’s other national pastime..music
I can always make time for Barenaked Ladies 😉
