For more than two decades Gerhard van der Leun has provided wisdom and wit on his website the New American Digest (americandigest.org) writing about things that mattered most to him: Duty, Beauty, Liberty, Country, Honor, Family and Faith.
He supported and linked to like minded patriots who were just beginning their own stories and journeys.
Too Tall– I followed that cite to his column. Read “The Second Lieutenant” with bated breath, sentence by sentence. Holy shit…where has this man been my whole life. It’s now bookmarked for additional reading…hopefully the blog will remain up.
Ah, bleep! I remember the early days, and his encouragement of others. Interesting, thoughtful, and more. God’s mercy on him and all those he leaves behind.
Thank you for the heads-up Chris. Gerard has been a bright light on the Internet for decades. May he rest easy and may his eternal soul be taken in due time into the loving arms of God.
Off topic, but what are the Owens (and Chris) going to do for Robert Burns Night (January 25)?
Given the ballistic performances of her deep fried turkeys, I shudder at the thought of Sam making Haggis. You probably would need the Nevada Nuclear Test Range to contain the results.
On the other hand, following a family performance of Auld Lang Syne; enjoying a fine single malt scotch and a stunning redhead? I’m sure Robert Burns, Robert the Bruce, and William Wallace would strongly approve.
One more thing: When will we see Sam, Kiko, and Mari, wearing the MacEwen (Clan Originaux for Ewen and Owen) tartan kilts? With Sam’s and Kiko’s red tresses and Mari’s blue eyes, that tartan would be stunning on all of them.
A final question: Does Zed (and Chris) know the Scots Sword Dance? (Second best use for a claidheamh-mor (Claymore sword) other than running through the enemies of freedom.)
You haven’t really lived until you finish a long hot street parade as part of a pipe band , play yourselves into a scottish themed pub for all the free beer you can handle (and then some) and watch the bagmeister do a perfect sword dance using a pair of pool cues.
40+ years on and it still seems like yesterday…well, I remember it about as well as I did the next day 🙂

Tough read.

He made a difference and will be deeply missed.
One of Gerard’s best columns was about the song “Stand By Me,’ and it is appropriate for what he is going through;

If you have not seen his post on the day the Towers fell, one he re-shared each year, highly recommended.

I see some one out West here turned his Clan Brooch into a Bolo Tie and put his dagger in his gun belt next to the S&W double action.
2023?
if not:
a. violent revolution
b. soma-induced submission to the Dark Side
not seeing other alternatives
