Same here. Was in the Army at the time. There was no such thing as coming home “too tired,” Jeebers.
OT: Nice to see Sam being drawn with more rounded features that lately.
I did it twice, four years apart, both daughters. I figured the second pregnancy would be a replay of the first. Boy, was I ever wrong. Then we figured the second daughter would be a replay of the first. Boy, were we ever wrong.
Our first mistake was bringing our second one home on our first one’s fourth birthday. Turns out that was *not* the party she wanted.
Yung uns don’t like sharing what they think is theirs.
One of my shipmates wife had a child just before Christmas. They asked a lot of us for advice on going home for Christmas with the new baby girl.
Consensus was to present her to the 5 yr old as a gift and a duty.
He was with fanfare announced to be her guardian and given a certificate to sign.
We all were solemn, hiding smiles, and the kid took it all to heart.
He swore to protect and watch her.
Well this lasted until he was 13 and discovered girls other than his sister.
I lost contact with them shortly after that as I was medically retired and he got a Warrant commission and transfer.
But I have this feeling of her father and brother vetting all boys who came a courting and found them wanting.
Sounds like when Robert Heinlein introduced the concept of “Carol’s Day” celebrating an adolescent girl’s maturing to full womanhood. See his novel’s “Time Enough for Love” and “To Sail beyond the Sunset.
I realized at that time why so many men just pack up and leave…their self preservation instincts overload and it becomes a ‘fight or flight’ event.
It might also explain why so many domestic violence cases are on pregnant women.
I’m not condoning it, not for a second and will stand against anyone who does, I’m just saying I can understand it.

Two things to beware, the 2nd trimester (aka the 4th through 6th innings) and the cravings.
Either one can have unfortunate consequences if you’re in the blast radius.
clear ether
eon
BTDT.
Best to give her whatever she craves, at the end of a 10 foot pole, then s-l-o-w-l-y back away.
BUT, remembering back, *I* was my baby’s craving! And she was insatiable! Different strokes and all that I guess…

Around here it was called DEFCON 3
DEFCON 2 was the ‘nesting’ stage…
when the nest didn’t get feathered fast enough
Oldarmourer,
Our wives must have been twin daughters of different mother, because that was what I remember.
Priorities? There were no priorites. Everything was primal..
