Hell, you don’t have to go to Italy for that…take a walking tour of Chitown or Overtown and find all the opportunity for that kind of excitement you want. Maybe they and Daddy Don should refocus on the primary precept of self-defense; the best way to win a gunfight is not with a double-stack nine, a long mag of 7.62, or even an RPG, but to avoid surroundings and scenarios where you might get into one.

We have been on high alert in case winds shift or the fires changed direction (or a new fire crops up near us). We were without power from 10 pm Monday night until 9 am Tuesday morning. Had friends of mine with their dogs and cats stay with us overnight as their neighborhood was extremely close (scary close) to the tail end of the fires downtown. Another friend/couple may have lost their home up in the foothills. Thankfully, for now, our house is ok (but only less than 4 miles away from the fires). These cold/dry/blustery Santa Ana winds are to remain through Thursday. We’re not out of the woods yet.

I hope that better fire fuel management practices will be eneacted in California in the future.

Unfortunately, even if they start doing proper fuel management immediately, the next fire in any area is going to be a big one.
And when you combine it with the very high winds we’ve had over the last couple of days, the fires go from nothing to huge _very_ quickly.
I was listening to the scanner as the Ventura County fire went from nothing to 500 acres to 2500 acres in under an hour.
The other big fire near Sylmar is right on the west edge of the La Tuna Canyon fire we had a couple months ago.
I’m about midway between the two (close enough to see the one to the west, and if I went up to the top of the pass to the east, I would have been able to see that one as well)

We had to go out to the desert yesterday and saw the smoke clouds and ash. On the way back on the 5 South, there were groups of 4 and 5 Fire Trucks and 3 to 5 police cars headed north. We found out after getting home that the fire had jumped a ridge. God Bless Trubador, the Misses and the critters.

The fire jumped the 101 to the coast at Solimar Beach (just north of Ventura). La Conchita on the coast is in evac mode). New fires have popped up in Sylmar and Santa Clarita (that smoke trail from those fires I drive through to get to work). The I-5 is (or was) closed north of L.A. Now, with the Skirball Fire in the valley, the 405 is closed between the 10 and the 101.
And I just heard back from our friends Deb & Joe (Deb was co-Maid of Honor at our wedding almost seven years ago). They lost their house. Completely gone and leveled except for the fireplace. Crushing!!!

I need one to go with my M-1 Garand I picked up a few years back. Talent is hitting a target no one else can hit. Genius is hitting a target no one can see……
The requirements haven’t even begun to be set yet. First, the pistols have to be released by the Army, then sorted and inspected by the CMP. I’ll bet the first ones won’t go on sale for a couple of years.
