The ring completes it. Jack Cates and his new bride were on the way home from the Justice of the Peace Office when their car was hit by a drunken driver.
Mr. Cates was killed in the crash as was the other driver, but young Mrs. Cates survived with serious injuries, and will continue living with her parents while she recovers from her injuries and until the Cates estate is probated.
That’s the story and no one in Gunpowder will ever say otherwise. (if they know what’s good for them)
Child’s grandpa has a deep well of skills and its great grandpa exceedingly deep pockets. Both have access to a very wide pool of very, very dangerous friends/associates.
Cartels rule through fear, but what happens when you’re no longer the scariest monster in the forest?
I (remotely) know a young lady who specifically asked that facial reconstruction should remove the disfigurement … but retain a beauty scar.

Dread
Off subject a bit, but Sam is going to be Granny… Which brings the series to periodic geriatric nudity… But then, I am reminded of my own age and how well Sophia. Raquel, and Ann Margaret held up to the rigors of time… and Sam’s own mother. Sigh
>And a great plot point Chris. It’s nice to see something positive come out of this. Kiko has her entire fabulous family, blood and extended, providing fantastic love and support. Special Kudo’s to Tucker for taking the time to find the ring. (Perhaps jake told him of his intentions?)
Jack’s promise , his symbol of commitment returned to her. She may keep the scar, to share the mark of Honor her father got in combat. With Jack and his Mom gone, she may have to fight for her child’s inheritance, the Cate’s ranch. NOW, Kiko has to grow up. She’s been trained and schooled all her life, but now those lessons must be used. Staying tuned…..
Glad that Jack had confided his ring plans to Zed or maybe Tuck so they would know to scour for it, previous symbol to sustain Kiko going forward. As to inheritance unless Jack has siblings under clear Florida and Texas law if the child was conceived prior to the father’s death the child is his uncontested heir. And not withstanding any other encumbrances on it, the ranch is his.
Yes, it does. I had some nefarious Texas cousins who tried to seize control of my grandfathers property under similar circumstances. Court said that you can not predecease your benefactor and have the will be valid.
(I don’t concider them real Texans. One was deathly afraid to try my hickory smoked habanero powder. “Tough?” — bullshit.
Probably no will. Probate is a pain but they will get things right, and might possibly be expedited in this case considering the various connections of the various players.
If it weren’t so woke, I could see Kiko joining military.
Surprised no TMT in area, they sniff stories out like this (and festival), then exploit subjects for clicks and views.
When something of this magnitude happens to an identical twin, the other twin will be profoundly affected too. If something of this import happened to one of my son-in-law’s identical triplet brothers, I know full well his & my daughter’s life would be permanently affected.
When my son (an identical twin) died, at his funeral his brother said that people had always asked what it was like to be an identical twin.
He said he could never tell people what it was like, but now he knew what it was like to not have a twin brother.
Mom’s not an identical twin, but she and her sister spoke twin speak and knew things before anyone else. Aunt got a brain tumor and after surgery, couldn’t speak anything except twin speak for a good week. Mom had to translate.
When Aunt died, Mom felt it worse than when Dad died four years previously. Said a part of herself is missing. 15 years after Aunt’s death, Mom still starts to call her and share things before remembering Aunt’s not here.
I’m not a twin, but watching those two all my life was fascinating. Twin connection is very, very real.
Using our causes to change the damn law to serve their cause…wow.
And of course the biden pos is just a figurehead for the power behind the throne; they cannot allow this thing to come to full fruition and conviction.
Well, it’s only valid in the Fifth Circuit, and I’m sure Hunter’s in a different one.
While everyone is celebrating, remember what happened last week where the Fifth Circuit put an injuncton on enforcing the ATF’s ban on “ghost guns” and DOJ & ATF appealed to SCOTUS, who decided 5-4 to let the regulation take effect. (Thanks, Roberts and Barrett!)
The notion that drug use is no longer a barring factor doesn’t change the fact that he lied on a federal form. With the 4473, it isn’t the drug use that’s the crime, it’s the lie.

Oohhh, now comes the pain of realizing…..
Damn you, Chris, just damn yoi.
Now you got me crying.
And over a cartoon character.
Well done.
She should call her new offspring “Diamond”.
And she should ask Tucker to be the child’s Godfather.
Baby has to be Jack or Jacquelyn…Jackie either way I think.
Your gonna make a old guy cry Chris…. I salute you sir.

John_M…they might need to pay off the Justice of the Peace to corroborate that story though.
Tuna — where’s Jeff or Jo when you need ’em…
Have the Cockroach visit the JP in the middle of the night. He’ll be reasonable after that.
Need to tell him soon so he can gin up and backdate the paperwork.
If he’s any kind of worthwhile civil servant, he’s probably working on it now.
YAY, Tucker found the ring. ‘Scuse me while I get this wetness out of my eyes and off my glasses. Well Done, Chris. “Shazam!”
This is where the crucible of a terrible vengeance begins to fill. And I don’t mean Zed.
Child’s grandpa has a deep well of skills and its great grandpa exceedingly deep pockets. Both have access to a very wide pool of very, very dangerous friends/associates.
Cartels rule through fear, but what happens when you’re no longer the scariest monster in the forest?
Addendum: Kiko will be too busy with her child to pursue personal vengeance in the short term.
Real tear jerker.
I’m betting Grandpa Portago already has the finest plastic surgeon money can buy on speed dial, really glad they found the ring.
What if she wants to keep the scar?

Barbara Eden could still rock her Jeannie outfit!

Zar Belk!
So she becomes a “GILF” rather than a “MILF”.
We’ve seen Sam and Skye’s mother topless many times. Geriatric nudity is nothing new on the DD, or on the beaches of BA.

Does Jack dying before his mother complicate things?
Still, it sounds like the baby will be Jack’s mother’s closest direct kin.
And Praise Yah, the scar crosses her eye without serious damage. Capt. Marvel’s lightening bolt, indeed!

A Warrior awakes.
Amiright?
Damn, it sure got dusty in here. Thanks, Chris!

It’s just amazing, at least to me, how we all get so invested in a set of characters that exist in what is basically a comic strip… WELL DONE SIR !!

Slightly off topic. Just wondering how many military cooks have been detailed to feed illegals.
Army cook shortage at Ft Hood, Texas, [now known as Ft Cavazos], shutters some mess halls, leaving hungry soldiers scrambling https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4174046/posts
I can think of some cooks in the Air Force that I wouldn’t mind being reassigned to feed illegals – until the illegals volunteer for deportation!
Thank you, Chris! I needed that glimmer of hope despite it being in a cartoon…
Well done, Chris! Now, I gotta go do something about the salty liquid pouring out my eyes.
Jack’s inscription. Is this a wait-for-it moment or what?
Usually when I comment with an OT it at least has a tangential connection to the thread…none at all this time but I just could not restrain myself…

Uh huh… but they have to CHARGE the lie, and not the possession, or he still walks.
