A little bit obscure for Skye, but she’s asking valid questions, and you have her attention. Keep it simple, but make her think. Use the Socratic method to lead her to conclusions. There is hope for Skye yet.
In terms of the above comment on how different Sam and Skye turned out having grown in the same household (h/t: WayneM), that is the old conundrum of ‘Nature vs Nurture’. Even identical twins can go different ways and there have been studies on how separated baby twins have matching characteristics even from very different homes.
On Halley’s above comment, I think that, like many social movements, female empowerment has many good achievements but has become tarnished by the excesses frequently found from the extremists. Knowing history gives perspective and while Western Civilization has seldom dropped to the low of considering females as property, it was only from the late 1800s that females have come to be considered legal persons outside of their familial structures. I regard this as a very good thing while with the same breath I deplore the current accepted expressions from the ‘feminists’ of superiority and the denigration of ‘patriarchal’ history and society!

You teased us regarding Wade’s picture at the museum.
I guess in all the excitement, we were not privy to why all the females viewing said picture were turning into giggly teenagers. Well?
So, can I do a little “mansplaining” for you Skye? OK right up front, two MUST HAVES:
1. Don’t be a skank that’s slept with dozens of guys before you decide to “settle” down with a ‘nice’ guy.
—-> This is an immediate problem as you already are a baby-mama and we still don’t know who the father is…either because YOU don’t know 🙁 or Chris is waiting to spring an amazing plot twist on us.
2. Don’t be a whacked out crazy pyscho bitch that requires Xanax to get through your day. This may also be a problem, but damn, we know a lot of women on anxiety meds..>DAMN where did all this anxiety come from? Aren’t women all powerful and liberated?
OK, now that we’ve covered the basic, here’s why this neo-Alpha male is still married to a wonderful woman after 29 years.
A. Be kind. —sounds simple, but it isn’t. A kind woman who doesn’t put her man down in public, trash talk him to her girlfriends and generally tries to not be a shrew is a treasure. A women who can put someone (husband, kids) before herself is surprisingly rare, but those women who do have happy homes and happy families.
B. Have some damn domestic skills. Sadly far too many young women we know that are good women and would love to find a man CAN’T cook or don’t seem to have any basic domestic skills. NONE…clearly because their bra-burning mothers didn’t teach them anything. On the other hand, those young women that can perform basic skills to run a household are awesome to watch as they dazzle their new husbands with their ability to cook and run a tight ship. Now, those powerful career wymyn would say that’s not their job. OK, you stick with that and enjoy those cats.
C. Make sure you treat you husband/boyfriend/significant other as your partner. We tell young couples you should COMPLIMENT each other, not be COMPETITORS. You don’t have to be the same, like the same things, etc, but you do need to be willing to work together and support each other.
MOST OF ALL, Skye, dear, you have to decide what’s important. Family? Career? Money? Guess what, in spite of all the lies of feminism, women can’t have or do it all. (Surprise, it’s kinda the same for men) If you want to find a keep a good man, they you have to decide what you’re willing to SACRIFICE (not a popular word in modern America) to make that happen. Relationships take work, lots of work, EVERY DAMN DAY, to be successful.
So watch your older sister…Ok maybe don’t take cooking lessons from her. 🙂 But in every other way, Sam is definitely the kind a woman a man wants to be with, marry, screw :), and otherwise make a life with….you got a good example there..pay attention. Hell, even Jan is a pretty good example of a reformed feminist, so it is possible.
Just don’t piss off Naomi…she’s a little psycho, but that’s cuz she was a trained killer… 🙂
All good, Grunt…living that takes conscious effort every day.
Even way back when Shakespeare’s Hamlet had the right of it as he observed Skye’s characteristics in his mother, “Frailty, thy name is Woman.” Easy to see how that morphed into Vanity as in many ways they manifest the same. And as you have said, those flaws are mirrored as it were in men too, and the answers are very similar even if the roles are quite different.
Love (actual love), devotion, empathy, and an understanding that satisfaction with one’s self and others has to begin with that deep look into the mirror and into your own flawed soul. This was very well illustrated in Pamela’s “shrew” link yesterday to the very well written story of a “woman” who will never have any of the former because she is incapable (or unwilling) to undertake the latter.
Shrews in the modern era will never be biddable nor understand that comely is also on the inside. If their souls were capable of reflection in a mirror, what would be seen? Or at worse, would the mirror hold no reflection.

Pamela
My son had a client that had a one date wonder with 5 kids by 5 other men (she neglected to mention her progeny) who was demanding child support for “his” kid. The “Baby Daddy” stated he never had relations with said female. That she was too insistent. Major red flag. DNA came back as “Not His” kid. During the Court proceedings she found out that the sperm donor was now residing in custody for a minimum of 15 years. Seems all the Baby Daddies were in custody. A rule of thumb is only a limited number of men are willing to take on the responsibility of other men’s kids.
I think Naomi needs to explain certain realities to Skye. Or maybe get her dropped into Gaza for a week.
Bwahahaha, yes, yes…Drop any modern American wymyn into Gaza, Kandahar, Mosul, Raqqa, or some other Muslim dominated shithole and let them see what real fu@@ing “male oppression” looks like.
Then maybe they’d be happy to come home to your average “nice guy” and make him a damn sammich.

Skye, you should have paid more attention in lit class…
That’s a frailty mirror. Study that reflection deeply, and learn…
And one day you can say, not frailty, not vanity, but Skye!
“…thy name is Woman”.
Nailed it!!!! Bravo!!!
Start by accepting responsibility for your problems.
In the real world, liberation from the cancer of feminism is the only true women’s lib. Skye will learn it, and live it.

A subtle message that a change of attitude is in order….
She may become a neocon, but so long as she doesn’t take it too far she’ll be okay.
It never ceases to amaze me that Sam and Skye were raised in the same household yet they got such remarkably different upbringings.
I have always believed the Skye would find her way out of the dark side…hope.
The bulb has always been there Skye, you just need to turn it on for illumination.

Nah, NYIAC spoke to that the other day with this link:

They’ll just try again and again until they get happy or dead.
That’s insanity according to Einstein and/or AA.
And who proves their insanity again and again? Yup.
From the article: “At least she is consistent and lives up to the reputation liberals have of being mentally ill.”
What a perfect tag-line to describe liberal insanity.
