I don’t know, we’re pretty crazy too.We sometimes forget that “average government incompetence, cruelty, and mean gummint” as Z acknowledges, are all the same thing.
1.Initially, in the hope that the West’s money-laundering operations there, could take over the East’s version, run by the Russian “oligarchs”.
2. Secondarily, as part of Western post-modern progressives’ OCD about “punishing” Russia for voluntarily giving up on Communism three decades ago, just when those same progressives were hoping to surrender Europe and North America to the USSR.
(Surrendering to the PRC was just a bit too déclassé for such champagne socialists then, not so much so now it appears.)
3. Now, mainly for the financial graft and the bloodsport spectacle.
A buddy of mine in NC called to let me know he and his wife were alive and safe. They don’t have power yet. Their yard flooded but their house is intact.
Elon says FEMA is preventing his crews from delivering/deploying Starlink.
Biden, Harris and Blinken have much to answer for, to say the least.

Why are we in Ukraine?
